Is this surge guard OK?

Is this Surge Guard any good. I don't think it protects against low voltage which I think is one of the main concerns....

Surge Guard

I went to a local RV dealer here and they want $169.00 for this unit. $450 for the next one up...

Camping this weekend and would like some protection, but I won't get anything delivered by then. So not sure what to do...
Final notice from MasterCard. Good! I'm sick of hearing from them.

The reason Progressive OVER TRC .........

TRC is a throw away unit........1 year warranty (IF you can prove to TRC is was defective)

Progressive...............LIFETIME warranty. REAL Lifetime/no questions asked.
Fix/repair no charge.

YES there is a difference.....PERIOD!
Is it time for your medication or mine?

Hi,

30 amp service is generally less in need of protection from over voltage events.

I would consider an autoformer with some surge capacity built in.
Regards, Don
My ride is a 28 foot Class C, 256 watts solar, 556 amp-hours of Telcom jars, 3000 watt Magnum hybrid inverter, Sola Basic Autoformer, Microair Easy Start.

Thanks SoundGuy.
My concern is that we are hitting Jellystone just north of you and I on Friday to Monday.
You know, I have been two years of camping without any protection at the post...but now that I have done some reading, I am nervous about those 3 nights!

I went 3 years without one. No problem. Wouldn't take a chance now. I have the 50 amp surge guard. Bought it at Camping World a couple of years ago on sale.
I would agree with Soundguy. Purchase the better one at Camping World when and if you get a chance.

An overreaction ... go camping and enjoy yourselves! :B Whether you own surge protection or not you always want to check your source before plugging in, first with a polarity checker and then with a voltmeter ... only then once you're satisfied should you then plug in your trailer. I also prefer to monitor voltage during our stay and although I now use a Kill-a-Watt meter which is difficult to find here in Canada you can do the exact same thing with an Energy Meter from Crappy Tire, about $30. All that said, Hydro One power is pretty stable here in S Ontario and at this time of year you won't have a bunch of dual A/C MHs and 5ths in the park dragging down power anyway. Your chances of having any difficulties this weekend are slim to none ... deal with this later. 😄

If you're going to buy a Surge Guard you don't need a 50 amp version for your travel trailer ... this 30 amp version is what you want. I've got an earlier version of this exact Surge Guard and I know for a fact that in just the last year that I've had it installed in my trailer it's saved the day on two occasions. Secondly, don't buy one here in Canada ... keep an eye out for Camping World sales, the closest store to us being in Hamburg, NY just south of Buffalo. Be aware also that many here on the forum will warn you against a TRC Surge Guard in favour of one by Progressive Industries ... nothing specifically wrong about it except that the Progressive units AFAIK aren't sold here in Canada and even if they were would be WAY beyond what you'd want to pay for one. If after researching you decide you do want a Progressive then have a friend or relative in the US order it for you, then pick up later yourself.

Agree!
Of course that one is better, but what protection does that one give you that the cheaper model does not?
I may not have $500.00 to drop on a surge protector right now, even though, i agree it is the best idea...
So I guess the point is, is the cheaper one a waste of money, better than nothing, or save my money for the better protection and take my chances this weekend...
