Level

Need some advice from the folks here. I went out and purchased a level that screws to the front of the trailer. The thing is huge (11 x 3) but is easy to see and should help me level with out getting out of the truck to see.

My concern is that after getting the level home I started thinking about putting screws into the fiberglass nose. Has anyone used one of these and what do you think about putting 4 screws into the nose piece of my trailer. I know to add some type of caulking around the screws when putting them into the trailer, but what about the longevity and durability of the level and it staying where ever it is placed. Also, what are the chances that the screws will start cracking the fiberglass?

Thanks in advance for all you help.

I`ve had more leaks from the factory sealant than from any of the holes I drilled in my trailer!

Predrill and use some sealant in the holes and around the back of the holes on the level. Don't use silicone caulk. use some type of rope type sealant. then put a bead of dicor around the top and sides of the level.

I don't profess to be an expert, but I don't think a couple of 1/4" holes, properly sealed, should be a problem.

The point is - why drill any holes and take a chance when adhesive tape works just fine? :h

I don't understand the problem with holes in the unit, I realize that these are not the same vehicle but back in the early 80s I had a custom van. Cut 2 holes in the roof for a sunroof and a 14x14 vent, 2 more in the side walls for port hole windows. Owned that vehicle for 10 years and it never leaked a drop. That van saw more of the states than I will ever see with my trailer.

I am not saying this is what I am going to do but my feelings are that if you take your time and make sure you seal everything properly you should not have a problem. I don't profess to be an expert, but I don't think a couple of 1/4" holes, properly sealed, should be a problem.

Anything big enough for me to see from inside the truck is too big :). I use the small ~2" level indicators and located them on the driver's side corner of my TT (front and side). If you clean the area on the trailer where you're going to place them (alcohol pad) they should stick and never come off.
Seriously? I get the front to back level being small - you are outside finagling that with the jack. But the side to side? I love the fact that I can see that beautiful big bubble in my mirror. Then again, I usually am doing this solo.

I used a piece of 1/4" plywood. Fortunately two screws on the black transition molding were long enough to mount the plywood. I used small strips of Gorilla tape to build up the molding below the two screws so that the plywood would be vertical. Very easy to see through the driver side rear view mirror.

LOL. I’ve added at least a dozen holes including a few in the roof.
Even took a jigsaw to the siding to make a hole for a hatch on a previous camper. But then, I tend to shy away from tall, sheer cliff edges.

Since I don't have and don't plan to get a data plan, this is not the type of unit I would purchase. I am not saying this is not a good unit to purchase, it just does not fit into my way of doing things.

Thanks for the advice but I must pass on this now.

and it "remembers hitch height also.
