Leveling Travel trailer

Can I level my 30 foot Fleetwood Mallard without having to move it..?? I have it on my own private land in New Hampshire and it has been there since i had it delivered five years ago and it needs to be leveled from side to side {off about inch and a half-two inches}. I'm thinking I could use a couple of house jacks and slowly work them together so i can add some thing on top off the blocks I have there now. I have a 2003 Yukon XL but i do not own any towing stabilzers for it and seeing i never move it I never invested because of that fact. Should i be thinking of getting something under one tire..?? Since it is already on blocks, I'd would just use a jack or two or three. Move all of one side fairly evenly. I used a five gallon bucket full of water and a clear hose to level mine. Push the hose I the bucket starting at one end (secure one end in the bucket with a rock). Push the entire hose in the bucket, ensuring no air bubbles are in the hose. Put your thumb on the hose and pull the none secured end of the hose out of the bucket. Keep that end higher than the water level. Ensure you don't spill any water. Hold the hose next to the frame which is the correct height. Adjust water level so the water level is the same as the frame. Then use the hose to ensure your trailer frame is level when you make your adjustments.

The fact that one side sank could be a good indication you should add another peer, or you need to increase the surface size of the bottom block of your existing peers.

As far as moving my TT with my truck. It sinks my Yukon so low that the TT's tongue never leaves the ground the even with the ball flipped opposite for added height.. Need a heavy duty truck IMO..

Local dealer told me to place jack on frame as close to axle as possible but not on axle OR spring perches.

I would think it would be much easier and safer to use the Yukon and move it back a couple of feet then put down boards and pull it onto them to raise the low side. You don't need anything but a ball hitch to do it that way. If you use jacks, put them under the spring perches and not on the axle.

X2, you avoid any possibility of damaging your trailer by just hooking up and moving trailer back 3 ft., put the needed boards to make it level then pull forward to a level trailer. Job done!

Ive tried this without the torsion bars and the camper just weighs to much. It sank the rear end of my Yukon...


No one is suggesting you take it for a spin around town... Just hook up and back-up/pull forward onto blocks to level it.

There's no reason NOT to do it... Heck you could do it with any vehicle you own if it had a hitch.

Ive tried this without the torsion bars and the camper just weighs to much. It sank the rear end of my Yukon...

Since you are using blocks under (I assume) the frame of the trailer, I would just jack it up using a strong bottle jack (a 12 ton works great for this)under an exposed part of the frame near the existing block and put a couple of boards on top of the existing blocks. No need at all to hook up and move it. I agree with the comment about having three supports/side of the trailer.

When I put new tires on last year, I took 2 at a time to the tire place. I jacked both axles on one side (and used a jack stand to avoid leak down) to remove both wheels.

I don't see why you couldn't do that.

Jacking up the trailer would require a LOT more jacking as you would have to take up the suspension first, before the tires left the ground.

This is all assuming you are leveling by putting something under the tires, not along the frame.

Used to level a 70' mobile home with a four ton bottle jack; one pier at a time. You should be able to lift it with one jack going about 3/4" at a time. At 30' I would use three piers per side.

PS You didn't say what it was sitting on. You may want to lower the high side instead, depending on what the result will be.

I would jack it up and just raise that side whatever it needs. Either unde the wheels or where ever else it may be supported
