License plates from truck to TC and back again, and again.

I like to unload my camper at the CG and go for what ever reason. I will need to remove the rear plate from the camper and mount it back onto the truck. I called my local DMV and asked if I could get a third license plate for my camper. The lady said "nope, they only come in pairs".

I was wontering what may be an easy fix, if any, for when I drop my camper and want to go. Maybe unscrewing the the two screws is no big deal and I am getting overly anal about making things easy. I was thinking of using my front plate (we have two here in Minnesota)but would like to hear from other to see if they have found a clever way of doing this.

Call me crazy, but I had a copy made by a custom plate maker and have used it for thousands of miles across many states.

The TRUCK is licensed with accompanying paperwork. The camper does not require a license.

First of all, I would have to be doing something wrong to be stopped. I could crawl under truck to grab the real plate and install it for the 'offended' officer.

What are the odds? I think they are very low.

You must have nerves of steel- it's illegal EVERYWHERE to duplicate a license plate!

While I understand the logic here, I'd sure hate to try to explain it to a Stater who was having a bad day or just didn't like the cut of my jib for some reason...

Maybe he spent a lot of time where they were made originally!

G'day, I have plate on camper made by professional sign writer. My vehicle plate is just visible to police officers, but camper plate, increases visibility and has plate light. I have never had a problem. Rather, I have been complimented, even though not strictly legal. I ensure vehicle abides by all state & federal Laws in Australia.

What I did...

I can't imagine anyone with any sense would think this is a photocopied license plate.

I have a pair of wing nut screws I got from Auto Zone. The head of the screw has a wing on it and you can use them without any driver..most of the time I don't even bother to transfer to the camper. I have been passed by troopers who never give it a 2nd look...

When I remove my front plate to my front cargo carrier, I attach it with a pair of zap straps. I just cut it off when I'm done with the carrier. You still have to screw it back on to the bumper though.

I also dislike switching the plate. So, I made a color copy of the rear plate and laminated it. I installed it on the TC and leave it there. It looks the same as the metal one and I always have the correct one on the truck for when I'm not hauling the camper.

I forget every time. Just this weekend I put the camper on for the season and ended up crawling underneath to take the plate off of the truck.

The only thing I've considered are the heavy magnets that car dealers use.

On my toad I have the electric and brake hook ups under the front license plate. So I have to remove the front plate every time I hook up and replace it when I unhook. I just ran the screws in and out of the mounted nylon nuts until they loosened up enough that I can remove them by hand, no tools required. I snug them down finger tight and they have never loosened up on me. Going on 5 years.

it takes all of two minutes to swap plates even if you have a beer in one hand.
