Can I assume that only a long bed will do for a 5th Wheel?

Wow! Didn't know you can't park a long bed!! That is news to me! I better check next time before parking that I can't park it.
No I can't park in a space for a Smart Car, but really, it is just getting us to it's size.

I am even courteous when parking my LB truck.

My last LB Dually never stayed in the shop nor has this 15 LB Dually. Not an issue.

Since the Ram is mostly used for the camper and parked in my 40 foot shop a long bed was a no brainer. Back when we had the 08 Ram it was a daily driver and we went with the short bed. I like the long bed better for towing because it rides better, I can still put the stuff I want in front of the hitch, no sliding hitch and when I need to haul stuff around the house it hold's a lot more. There is no right or wrong just buy what fits you.

Depends on what make, some short beds are too short (5.5 feet). The 6.5 foot bed works out great, and no need for a longer bed unless you're carrying your whole world with you.

Some short bed are too short 5.5' ? Too short for who ,the ones that bought them. IMO there are no short bed trucks TOO short, depends on your needs .

I think the 5'6" beds are in half tons only.

The newer fivers also have rounded front caps that virtually eliminates the chances of the trailer striking the cab of the truck except in extreme turns which one should avoid anyway due to the strain on the trailer tires and suspension.

I have a slider hitch and haven't even come close to needing to use it since we upgraded our fiver over 2 years ago.

I would rather have a long bed and a less rounded nose so I have more storage space!

We have an 8' wide closet with a 18" deep FLAT floor full width, much better than the current rounded nose chopped up closets.

Our trailer has a large front closet as well as a closet for a washer/dryer combo. 2008 Corsair brochure. Our model is on page 13. There is also plenty of other storage within the rest of the trailer.

One thing that you need to remember is that your truck is much shorter with the extended cab and 8' box than the new crew cab/mega cab trucks. My last truck was a F-350 Supercab with 8' box that was just slightly shorter than my current truck. The Supercab was getting much too small for our family and we needed a truck with a bigger cab.

It isn't supposed to happen, but........

If I was better at filing my pictures, I'd have more to show. Where I've seen most of the damaged cabs is in the southwest. I'm guessing, but part of it might be due to backing up on rough like at Quartzsite and BLM grounds?

It also depends on the brand and year. Ford short bed is 6 foot 9, Chevy is 6 foot 6, ram is 6 foot 4. And the ram mega cab short bed has the same wheelbase as the long bed crew cab. To each their own, I like a short bed because of better meneauverability, tho I'm thinking of moving to a bigger cab, hope Chevy gets a bigger cab for 2019, if they do, I'm in. If not, I might go to a Ram mega cab. Either way, as others have mentioned, short beds work with the right setup.

Mega Cab is 11" shorter than Long Bed Crew Cab.;)

You made me look it up. You are correct, and the wheelbase is 9 inches shorter.

Correct and it is why I went with the Megacab; it fits in my garage (barely) and the CC with 8' box doesn't. Decision made!

Just read all the compromises people make with a short bed then answer your own question.

But it fits in my garage which is very important to me.

What compromises do I make? Can't haul a 4X8 sheet of plywood with my tailgate closed? .......OH wait , yes I can.:B

As a home owner, and not in any kind of construction, making a case for needing a long bed for hauling an occasional 8' sheet of plywood, lumber ,whatever would be pretty feeble. ๐Ÿ™‚
