Long time lurker

I've been a long time lurker and this is my first post. So a little about myself. I'm single male 57 and retired in the summer of 2016. I retired because of medical issues that as of right now have been resolved. So what's next? I have a Lance lite 1025 and had it on a 2002 Chevy 2500HD gasser. I sold Chevy and was starting to shop for a new dually in 2016 and then had a major health problem so the new truck had to go the back burner. Fast forward 2 years and the health problem is under control so it's back to the plan. Last week I ordered a 2019 Ford F-350 dually CC 4WD, looks to be a couple of months before I can expect delivery.

So the topics I'll be researching are a spacer for the bed, tie down arrangement, the electrical connection in the truck bed and how I can flat tow my 2013 Honda CRV.(and a thousand other things.)

We got a really good deal on a brake buddy when we bought our motorhome, the CRV was our toad for years behind it. When we went back to a TC we kept it. It's a rudimentary unit and there are many better ones out there, but it works. My truck is also old, a 460, and a manual, so I kinda drive it mellow or my mpg goes south quickly.

1.) I built mine and attached it to the bottom of the TC so I don't have to handle it...it's always there. Also either do a spray-on bed liner or rubber mat under the TC's. It helps in keeping it "planted" on the truck.



2.) Tie downs are either Happijac, Torklift, or Stablelift. I've got Happijacs on mine, but will be going to the rear Torklift system that works with my hitch.



3.) I have a round 7 plug mounted in the bed of the truck just for the TC, but you can get a cord to plug it into the rear round 7 for your truck.

4.) Torklift and Reese make a special hitch that's designed for TC's and it uses a "stinger" to get the ball behind the TC. I have a Torklift and tow behind it regularly. We have a 2006 CRV and it tows fine behind us when we take it.

Torklift website. In my opinion the best tie downs and the easiest to use.

I use the torklift tie downs and the fastguns with them. I find them super fast, super strong and super easy.

For my spacer I use a 2 inch piece of pink ridged foam from home depot.

I also use the torklift quick connect stable loads.

If that's all your ever going to tow and they make an extension that works with your factory hitch...no. There wasn't a lot of options for a 20 year old truck when I did this in 2011.

Good, I didn't want to remove a perfectly good factory hitch unnecessarily. I think the CRV is the heavies thing I plan on towing,
the boat and my small trailer weigh much less.
I had Torquelift tie-downs on the Chevy. I've already got the fast-guns.

Didn't change the rigidity at all, but was used mainly for a little more insulation under my basement. I built the spacer to be able to use it off-truck. S&S said that they wouldn't trust the floor with a full water tank without some additional support under it since it was never designed to be used that way. The other + was the clearance gain, it worked without it on the truck...but my roof lights were REALLY close to the TC. I bought the truck and camper as a unit and sold the truck, so the camper was almost free. there was dents from the previous trucks lights under the C/O, so it needed some kind of spacing to start with.

I had a stinger for my other truck and I only pulled a light boat or small utility trailer, 2 inch if I remember correctly. I think the Reese is 3 inch IIRC which the new truck will have. Would you go to the extra expense of the Torque lift hitch with just the CRV? Google says the CRV weight 3500lbs?

Does the foam help the rigidity of the riser or is that just to provide insulation to the bottom of the camper?

Welcome to the forums. I can't provide help on your truck camper needs, as I've never owned one. But still I enjoy all the forums here and learn something from all of them, all the time.

Tip: It's easiest and most straightforward to state a single question, or a single situation and if you have a second question to start a new thread with that question.
