I was at a dealer a couple weeks ago and he told me that new 2013 models (that are on a competitors lot have lot rot) What ???
If it is new them it is under warranty and any leaks would be most noticeable especially if the unit is almost a 2 years old model.
All other items would also be covered on the Jayco 2 year warranty.
Would you buy a 2013 model if the price was right? I'm thinking offering no more than 40% off msrp as the dealer is most likely getting a huge rebate from the mfg>

We are talking travel trailers, not motorhomes. Travel trailers don't have a way to record mileage.

Look for some used of same model, see what they are asking, and then offer slightly more for the new leftover.

RV Trader has a new 2013 listed at 21998, granted it's in PA but I would consider that my MAX offer. Probably start at 20000.

From my limited experience, trade-in values are pretty atrocious in general. If you get a really big markdown on last year's model, that should more than compensate for any loss of trade-in value in the future. There are so many variables involved in the future value of a used trailer, I would not even make that a consideration in the purchase of a new trailer now. As a matter of fact, since we plan to buy a new trailer next year, I can confirm that won't be a consideration in our next trailer.

By "lot rot", he is referring to the fact that up till this point nobody has wanted to buy these units. It could be because they are less desirable than the competing units, or they were overpriced from the start. No matter. Look at them to see if any will work for you.
Drive a HARD bargain. Forget about building a relationship with the dealer... A dealer with that many old units is bleeding money badly. They may well be about to close the doors because of it.
A deal like this is all about the money today.
The deal they have offered so far, is not a deal at all. You can get 35% off MSRP on current units if you try hard.
If and only if I liked the unit, I would offer 60% off cash, or walk away. If you are needing to finance or do a trade in... That muddies the water. That's why I don't do it.

Many manufacturers require that the roof be inspected and recaulked every 6 months.. I doubt that this has been done. Make sure that they do this for you before delivery... Get it in writing tat it has been done.

Offer what you are comfortable paying.

They will either take it, or pass.

There are no magical "Mfg Rebates" to move old units. The dealers own them for what they own them.

Sometimes the leftover trailers have been picked over when they're on the lot a long time. Make sure all the accessories are accounted for. Make sure you take a close look at the roof as I assume it has been on the lot without anyone looking at the caulking for cracks and water damage.

I agree. I have been in sales all my adult life and refuse to bash the competition. If someone asks why they should buy from me VS. the competition, it usually is a pretty easy answer without tearing down another company. I've always felt that if you have to tear down someone else to look good, you need to take a hard look in the mirror.

The new prospect is a Jayco Jay Flight 29rlds loaded except no power leveling jacks. BUT HAS a 13.5k AC (ouch)
Funny to some posts is the guy that said 2013's have lot rot sold me my first trailer- used in 2008 a 2004 Trail lite which has been awesome and virtually worry free. Guess he wanted the nest sale also???????
