LP Gas Hoses

Just returned from a Summer trip out west during which the hoses from both the lp tanks to the regulator popped off at the tank end leaving the green knob connected to the tank with the barb showing and gas leaking. First time was in San Antonio when we were downtown. Neighbor said it came off with a bang and he came over and turned off the gas which continued to escape. It was mid afternoon and the temp was in triple digits. The other came off in Bakersfield, hot but not as hot as San Antonio. This time I smelled gas when we returned from supper. As I got closer, I could hear it hissing and turned it off.

Trailer is a 2015 Rockwood 2608. Each time went to a lp gas distributor and bought a ready-made replacement. Been towing campers for many years and never heard of this.

I thought the nut was supposed to melt in a fire to disconnect from the supply.
Yes looks like a defect.

This was on our 2007 RVision TrailCruiser C21RBH hybrid which was in it's second season. The plastic nut cracked on one of the pigtails, the other one actually melted. I replaced both pigtails with new ones and they failed not long after as well. Fed up, I then replaced both again but this time with P.O.L. versions and never had an issue after that. We've owned several trailers since that time, all have had the plastic ACME Type-1 connectors, and I've never had this problem repeated so I can only assume it was a bad production run. I wouldn't have believed it was possible if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes.

I recommend Cavagna brand for a superior crimp. If the dealer made them up by hand they are probably fine as well.
