A hdt is out of the question.
1) I don't want a truck that big. I still have to drive it when I get where I am going. I haven't found a smart car that will fit a family of 5
2) a truck of that size is not necessary for what I am hauling
3) i haven't seen one in a crew cab. I want my kids to be able to see America out of a window as we travel.

The MD trucks don't offer a whole lot more than your current truck- they will brake better but power is underwhelming in my opinion.
If you are seriously considering this route I would look for a class 8 with the rear axle removed and licensed an RV.
A class 8 will offer the performance, safety, and comfort you are looking for!
