Memory foam mattress

Maybe this has been addressed, but could not find it. My question, for those who use a memory foam mattress, does the mattress get hard when it’s cold out? Living in Montana we do a lot of late season camping when temperatures get down below freezing. We currently have a memory foam topper and it gets pretty firm when it’s cold out. Thanks

We used to run a layer of reflectix insulation under the mattress, than a layer of something like the Aire-flow (shown above) sandwiched between insulation and mattress

They warm and soften quickly. If we are in that cold of country an electric blanket or comforter warms it up nicely.

We removed the sleep number quickly and have a nice tempur-pedic. Just like the sticks and bricks. They can be a bit warm too. But they are soooo comfortable.

I now prefer latex over memory foam. AFAIK it won't get hard in cold, but I haven't tested it.

The nights in az got a bit cold but we never noticed the 2in memory foam to be hard or cold.

When traveling it tends to get cold inside the camper and still in the mode of “we just need to get there” so stopping late in the evening, getting the camper warmed up and the mattress takes awhile. In addition to that, if it’s around 0° or colder the mattress still seems to be somewhat hard even though we have a four season camper. The bed area, from underneath, can’t be that well insulated, at least in our camper, but thanks for the information on turning on the furnace.??

I'm not a fan of all-memory-foam mattresses (and not many are 100% memory foam these days). We use a Tuft & Needle mattress that we both think is the best we've ever slept on.

The mattress is not cold in the winter and not hot in the summer.

Be aware, though, that nearly all foam mattresses require a substrate on a solid surface to allow for air flow and prevent moisture and mold. There are several options, but we use this one:

I had couple of mattress toppers and memory foam start to deteriorate after about 5 years.
Not really lasting.

Hard as a rock, lol. We now have a foam mattress (the PERFECT PRESSURE) which does not.
