Towing mirrors caused check engine light!!!!!
I decided to remove the towing mirrors and replace them with regular rear view mirrors. My truck is a 2013 2500. I bought a pair of mirrors off a guy who had a 2012 2500...everything fit perfectly.

A coupe of says later, the check engine light came on and the temperature display said minus forty degrees. The tranny started shifting funny, slaming into second, and hard down shifting at a stop. I was sure the computer was going bad at 3500 miles!

Took it to the dealer who said the mirror swap caused the problems, because the temperature sensors for my truck are in the mirrors. Ugh....

I swapped the mirrors back, disconnected the battery to clear the check engine light, and all is back to normal....

By the way, I did pay a diagnostic fee of $125.....ouch

Who would have thought????

I had no idea how sensitive the newer computers really are....I guess I can change the oil....ha

I does work. You have to push the gas pedal down slowly three times.

X2. Always works for me. Turn key to final position before "start" (do not start engine). Then, within 10 seconds slowly push accelerator to floor and release 3 times. If it doesn't work you may have to repeat the procedure.

Try reading your manual. You turn the key to application and press the gas pedal to the floor 3x in 10 sec. Then turn it off and start. Works everytime for me.

Still can't figure out why one would take off towing mirrors unless you don't tow anything :H

Towing mirrors on a truck can make parking spaces, garages, and drive-throughs very dicey.

Fold the right or left mirror in then you can keep the tow mirrors. BTW the wife figured out if you get close enough to the side of the garage door you don't need to stop and fold it out! It does it all by its self! :M

Don
I need to fold my right mirror in to park in my garage. it is a pain to climb over the console to do it. the smaller mirrors would be good, but I would still need to fold it in so my wife has enough room to park.... enough room for me, but not for her LOL!
Wait... You can park a truck in a garage? I thought they were just big rooms that hold vast quantities of junk! My garage looks more like an episode of "Storage Wars" than a usable space. :h

Yes I can, once I winterize my garage. i.e... move all the kids summer junk to the shed for the winter!! my wife hates it when I put it in the garage because it moves her van over to far! 😞

There may have been a collision involved. Dead truck = parts!
Did you read the thread?????? 2013 2500 Ram with a bump pull in his Sig.
Just me but if I had a collision I'd want the same OEM mirrors installed. Reading skills are sometimes questionable on this forum.
D'Oh! I read the entire thread, but my brain thought you were asking about the donor mirrors, not the original ones on the truck. Can I claim dyslexia?

That placement doesn't seem very intelligent. So if your mirror gets damaged in a parking lot or wherever, your truck may stop working? I don't know what they were thinking, out of all the places they could put it, they decided the mirror was best?

Well, it is a Dodge.

Yeah I know, buddy was up visiting me from Texas. Stayed over night at my place, said he could park his Chebby behind my Ram ...if he dared! We got up next morning to go out for breakfeast...lo n behold if that Chebby hadn't gone an pee'd something (puddle of tranny fluid under his truck) My Ram musta said something to his Chebby!?
