Miss my Jayco

We traded in our 2007 Jayco 27BH for a 2012 Prime Time Tracer 2670 BHS. We liked the extra room inside with the big slide and it was still towable with our half ton. We have now come to the conclusion that ultra lightweight comes at a sacrifice of build quality. The Tracer has a definite cheaper feel than our old Jayco. We are now looking at going back to a Jayco to get the higher quality construction back. Looking at a Jay Flight 28BHS. Anyone care to share any experiences with this particular floor plan? Pros/Cons?? Thanks.

We have a 2007 Jayco Designer, fifth wheel. We got it used from some friends who were quitting the lifestyle. In the nearly four years since our purchase, we have not seen another that, a. had the floor plan we like (split bath) or, b.felt ass solid as ourss. It is 36 ft, probably longer than we might have gotten, and heavier, but well worth what we paid for the RV and the TV (F350 dually). Nearly all the things I have done to it have either been my fault or just modification to make it mine.

There is a long list of mods,I have done, but they would be valid on any fifth wheel. Stabilizer hooked up to landing gear, sliding shelves in cupboard, extra shelving in other cabinets for double storage, new DVD system for Blu-ray and replace scratchy speakers, black tank discharge gate, clogged. This is a partial list, but like I said, I would have done many of them to any RV we bought. They are definitely solid.

We have a 2005 29BHS which is the same floor plan. We still love it and have only had minor problems. I do wish the grey water tank was bigger and the exterior graphics are failing. However we love the big awning and the floor plan. Good luck!

My point is, that is a totally different weight class than what he is looking at in the Jay Flight. I wanted to point it out, since it is a significant weight difference. Your comments made it sound as though it was almost identical, other than the bathroom on the other side with a door. Adding 30% to the total weight of the trailer is a huge difference.

I actually didn't make it sound like anything. I was responding to his post, more particularly:

So I suggested my trailer on purpose...But I do understand where you were going...

I love my Jayco. Its got a couple of issues, but nothing major. We are planning on taking it to the dealer when the camping season ends and getting some minor things fixed.

I love the quality of the Jayco and the standard features. We shopped around for years before deciding what we wanted. The Jayco was consistently the best built, most sensible floor plans, best features and the best price we found.

Our first trailer was a "lite" model. Didn't know any better at the time and What a piece of crap. The whole lite model line of trailers just shouts cheap and poorer quality. Bought a used 2009 Jayco 28BHS that we like very much for the last 4 years. We wanted the slide, bunks, front bedroom and wavy siding vs the flat. So far so good. Nothing fancy. Just solid construction. Every manufacturer builds some good ones and some bad ones. Some manufacturers are better than others though.

Aren't you going to take a financial hosing by making a deal like this? Or did you buy these TTs used?

We bought these units used. Bought in late fall so we got some great deals. I'm finding that our current Tracer is very popular with half ton people such as us since it really is A LOT of room with the full slide with relatively light weight that can be handled by a half ton. We went to the dealer last night and they drooled when we said we had a Tracer to trade (we'll see how bad they want it, I'm going to make them work for it). Working on numbers currently on a 2015 Jayco 28BHS with the Elite package. Not as much interior space as our Tracer, but a heck of a lot more solid and a lot of features that we don't have with the Tracer.

Your trailer is also 1,500 pounds heavier than the Jay Flight 28BHS.

And your point?

After looking at several different makes and build type, the Jay Flight line always seems to be the best built, with the best features, and surprisingly, the lowest price by a good margin. I'm still amazed at how my loaded 26BH was only a bit over $14K where some $20K+ units look budget next to it.

I have a 2010 Jayco 28BHS,and it has been flawless since day one. Like stated above, the bathroom can be a bit tight, but other than that, it's a great floorplan.
