mounting a propane tank to bumper

we bought a 2019 northern lite it has the two little propane bottles like you see on b b q grills. I am looking for a way to mount either two of the same size tanks to the large bumper or even better say a 20 or 30 pound and never have to use the small ones that are so hard to get in and out. Thank those of you for helping with this according to cummins the generator will run for 3.5 hours on one tank that came with the camper. I have seen one northern lite with a tank on the bumper and the hose ran through to the mount inside the compartment. hope it can be done

And how is the year of the TC relative ? lol

By the references to the older valves without pressure releases..This topic is about possible mounting a propane tank on the rear bumper/deck of a 2019 Northern Lite..

10 pages in and people don't know what the post was about..It went off topic almost immediately...How sad for the opp...

OPD with relief valves have been required since 1998 mfg date
Any cylinder older then 12 yrs has to have recertifcation inspection done which requires it have an OPD

ALL pressurized vessels have Safety relief valves.....even that RV water heater which operates at much lower pressure than a propane tank/cylinder.

I had a class B that caught on fire, it had a 20 gallon propane tank and full of gas the gas tank and propane tank vented off lost the r v but no explosion

Bare in mind, even the title of this topic is misleading, we are talking about propane CYLINDERS here, as only those can be used with TC.
Lot of members can't catch the difference, but propane tanks do have safety valve.
Propane cylinders do not.

Wrong......!!!

Propane TANKS....Motorhomes ---have a separate relief valve
Propane CYLINDERS...trailers/bbq even the one pound bottles ALSO have relief valves
The OPD on cylinders have several components
*Internal Float to stop filling of liquid propane at 80%
*Spring Loaded shutoff valve so NO propane can flow if pigtail not connected
*Fixed liquid level gauge (bleeder valve)
*Safety Relief valve......which is one reason cylinders need to be Vertical so relief valve is in vapor section and NOT the liquid area

I think a couple of us should get together here in Idaho and do some fishing/drink a couple cold ones and discuss truck campers in person..I am always open to forum members stopping by to see the sites Idaho has to offer but you might have to help get some firewood but I am furnishing the drinks..

If your short on time,I can point you to some beautiful country you can visit with your TC..

These internet arguments should not happen but the offer stands..

I think I have contributed to the thread. Although the thread has morphed from installing propane tanks on bumpers to locking cylinder compartments. I have pointed out that the NFPA restricts locking propane compartments; something many posters, including, your self were unaware of.

Furthermore the NFPA specifies the proper locations for hauling or attaching propane cylinders on vehicles. And I can assure you that hauling a propane cylinder on the rear bumpper is not one of them.

My point is to simply discourage someone doing something that is unsafe in my opinion. And that is to mount a propane cylinder on a bumper or lock a propane compartment.

But as usual there are those that want to argue an opinion, and will get their way by trying to shut someone down as your quote is trying to do.

Unbeknown to you, I have contributed to this post. Much more in a positive way than you have. Encouraging someone to do something that has inherent safety hazards is downright irresponsible.

So you're trying to tell me that you didn't recommend locking propane cylinder access or perhaps condone the practice.

Yes I am,my post meant that was an option and as mentioned above,I also would mount one on my bumper and lock it from thieves if need be.But that's just me and I am not recommending it.

Instead of trying to pick my post apart and getting personal about it,why don't you contribute to this thread and the opp that posted it...

Common sense would dictate locking up the box while say in the store or eating dinner then unlocking when around..A deterrent only as most security devices are

I here 'ya and agree...Sorry if I missed the humor part..I am all for it..

As usual on here, few here comment on what the opp of the thread ask, instead they pick apart others who have commented on the topic whether they intended there post to be advice/facts or just talking out loud about the actual topic....

Is it so hard to stay on topic?

You asked by Whom, And I replied the Propane Police, and evidently I offended a member of same.

Thanks for posting that..I stand corrected and was wrong..

I have seen so many propane tanks on hitch hauls/bumpers and mounted on the rear of 4X4's for off roading and I bet none of them new that they were out of compliance with transporting propane tanks..

Live and learn..Without being a jerk

If I wanted to I would mount one on my rear bumper and I have installed a lock on the access doors on my 5er. I have yet to be incarcerated. But then I've always had an outlaw streak going.

And where would be fun in that?
Without all the trolling, bashing and spamming all threads would end in 1 to 3 replies.
Took over 110 replies for GDS-3950BH to bring copy of the law and that should be the end of questions. :S
Just note that is 2018 copy and the laws have been different in the past.

NFPA 1192 that pertains to RV's. Not going to spend $50 to read a copy.

I don't believe that..If that was true it would be all over the internet especially with enclosed propane tank systems.Nothing says or tells you that you cannot lock your propane doors on a TC...They warn you about everything anymore to the point of stupidity so if a lock on a propane device was dangerous or illegal,it would be printed everywhere..

I think it is more of an internet propane police issue..Laffin..

Well believe what you wish. Right from NFPA 1192 that is specific to recreational vehicles. Not that I care one iota what anyone does or doesn't do, but this is what the manufacturers follow to be able to put that worthless oval decal on the side that says RVIA. Have you ever looked at the wiring behind a converter LOL. Yep it's all up to snuff, and code LOL.

And interestingly as it applies to this thread.

Plus you're free to post such ignorant advice on a public forum and hang around and argue its validity.

Whoa big guy..Show me where I recommended to lock it up..

Here is an option for mounting on the rear TC bumper with some protection and it seams easy to put a lock on for security

I did not recommend or give advice,I merely mentioned it would be easy to lock it up..If you don't want to..don't..Like anyone around here abides by rules and regulations for TC's anyway..

I don't give advice I personally have not done myself..

Have you ever seen an RV leave a factory with locks on the propane storage compartments?

NFPA code 58 restricts locks on propane compartments.

Yes, you can buy locks to secure the cylinders in the compartment, but not the access to them.

The valves must be readily accessible in the event of an emergency.

The code does not prevent the ignorant person from locking access. You are free to do what you want.

Plus you're free to post such ignorant advice on a public forum and hang around and argue its validity.
