Need info for Tundra and Lance 650.

I am trying to find information about purchasing a truck camper for a new 2016 Toyota Tundra Crew Cab with a 5 + foot bed. I am looking at a Lance 650 and just wondering if it is to heavy?I know the Lance company says it is okay but I am wondering if anyone has tried it out.


Would I have to make sure I have heavier stronger tires, maybe a air bags things for the weight?

I can't seem to find anything on this site or anywhere else.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Some numbers are in order.
2016 Tundra CrewMax, I'm assuming 4x4 weighs either (in pounds)
5570, 5645, 5670, 5690 depending.
The GVWR, Gross Vehicle Weight Rating is: 7000 to 7200 pounds.
That leaves the payload capacity at 1430 to 1555 pounds.
I see no heavy duty factory option as to drive train, suspension, brakes, or tires.
You have these options:
1. Get a larger, higher GVWR truck. or,
2. Get the smallest, lightest pop-up camper you can find and still be overloaded. The Lance 650 on a Tundra would be living on the edge alright.
I wish it weren't so. I like the Tundra platform, but it's made to look good, with good power and have a cushy empty ride.

Tundra crewmax trucks only have about 1300lbs of payload maximum. Not nearly enough for that camper and passengers. Unfortunately this will be the case for most 1/2 ton trucks. You'll need a 3/4 ton minimum.

Depends if you want to be by the numbers on everything or not.
E load tires and something to help the suspension will carry a 650 ok. Not ideal but not a deal breaker imo.

Too much camper and not enough truck.

Lance lies, check your glove box or door frame for max payload. Probably around 1600 pounds. Fully loaded with camper, people, gear, I'm guessing, you'll be close to a half ton over that.

Toyota Tundra Crew Cab with a 5 + foot bed? The extra short bed is a very poor choice for a truck camper. I doubt you could achieve proper axle weight and center of gravity with the 650.

Lance shows that camper at 1900 pounds wet. Add about 500-1000 pounds for your stuff.

The tundra I believe has a cargo load rating of about 1500-2000 pounds.
