Needing new tires so thinking or upgrading rims too...

So will be needing new tires by next season and was thinking of adding some bling to the OLD truck with ome new rims. My thought was go to 17" from the current 16" and get the same tire which I absolutley love which is the Bridgestone revo 2. So instead of 285 75 -16 go with 285/75-17. With the shorter sidewall think one would notice better stability (sway)?

Follow the specs on the sticker in your driver side door jamb. The tire size on the sticker is part of what goes into the calculations for the weight ratings for your TV, cute tires don't count.

Seems like not much option on Hub centric Rims in aftermarket
. I see you can buy adapter rings to help with creating a hub centric fit

Thanks for the info. Going with 285/65/18 would be very close in same size and only lose 110# rating and sidewall would be reduce by 1.13". Definately be watching the weight rating on rims and hub centric.

I moved from 16" to 18" on my F-250 when I bought the fifth wheel and needed new tires. I kept the same diameter which allowed me to get away from the high sidewall of the 16" rim and tire combo. My spare is still the original 16" spare and worked fine when 8 needed it this summer. MB 8 lug rims with Nitto Dura Grapplers.

All of the 17" rims I've looked at were rated higher than stock. I think it becomes more of an issue as you move into the larger "blingier" rims.


Do look for hub-centric rims if you want to ensure a vibration-free ride. I made that mistake, and as the lug seats have worn on my lug-centric rims, vibration has developed and gotten worse, no matter how balanced they are. I will be replacing the rims with hub-centric rims next tire swap, but it does dramatically reduce wheel options.

Bridgestone doesn't have a 285/75/17 tire
And the Revo 2 is 285/70/17.........with a MAX Load rating of 3195#

The Revo 2 in 285/75/16 has a MAX Load Rating of 3750#

I have 17" wheels and have not found any tire with a higher load rating then 3195#

Are you looking at 285/70-17? That would have a shorter sidewall than your 285/75-16 you have now.

Many of the aftermarket rims have low weight ratings and are all bling. Make sure that any replacement has a rating greater than your rear axle rating.

Keep in mind that the same sidewall profile (75) on a bigger rim will have a larger overall diameter and will affect your speedometer. The 285/75/17 is 1" larger in diameter than the 16" tire and will put your speedo off by about 3kph. Not a big deal but it affects the computer readouts for mileage etc.

If you don't want to affect anything you should go with a 285/70/17 which is almost identical in overall diameter to the 285/75/16
