well the wife and I went "looking" for truck campers at the Hershey show today. Well the "looking" turned into buying a new 2014 lance 855s with most options except genset and a few other options. We will be getting it as soon as it is in at parkview rv. we have a 2013 chevrolet 3500 srw with air bags. we traded our 08 815 in on it.

That looks sweet! I assume you had to modify the rear brackets? What did you have to do? I will be putting a set of these on in the next week or two.

I had to modify the front brakets also. the rears I welded a 3/4 x2" piece of flat stock to the top of the rear brackets. I then drilled and tapped for 1/2 16 bolts. I then drilled two holes for 1/2 inch bolts in another piece of flat stock. I then put the flat stock through the spring hanger and bolted everything together.

The fronts I had were from a short bed. I used all the old mounting hardware from them. but I had to cut then weld a piece into the bar that goes up to the bed bolts. The front is actually mounted back farther

How much does that lance weigh? My 2012 was exactly like yours minus z71 and it scaled at 7826 lbs full of fuel and me in it. GVWR is 11500, that gives a 3674lbs payload.

sticker in the camper says 3188 but that doesn't include batteries or gear. plus I needed 300is lbs for tongue weight for the boat. Empty coming home from the dealer the truck was 11500+lbs on a cat scale and that was empty.

Seeing that my 2013 silverado 3500 srw was overweight I upgraded to a truck that would handle it.

Which tie downs are you using? If they are Torklift for a 2011-14, did you have to modify the rear brackets?

BTW, sweet looking rig!

the are torklift from my last truck and I modified them to fit.

Congratulations, bigger isn't a bad thing. I just recently changed as well. A DRW has it's own issues, but hauling a camper once it is loaded isn't really one of them.

Probably felt like an eternity, but now you have the new Lance in the driveway and you're ready to go play at a moments notice! Funny, you received your 855S, almost exactly one year after us (we took delivery on Dec 15). The timing makes for a nice Christmas present. By the way, what's all the white stuff that's stuck to everything? We never see such material out here in the desert. 🙂

The graphics on the camper tie in great with your truck - very complimentary. Also, good call on adding the outside access to the forward dinette storage.

I wish you many happy travels in your new 855S. It's a nice camper and should serve you well.

Actually for 2014 the other outside access is standard on the 855s
