Top of the morning all-

My daughter and husband are looking at buying a travel trailer with bunks for their 7 kids. Does anyone knows what brand name light T.T. that sleeps 9? Her husband likes the Jayco brand. She does NOT care for Jayco, she thinks the interior colors are dark and it is depressing. I will really appreciate any input form you folks.

Thank you in advance..:R

What does your daughter plan to tow this RV with?

I believe she called the dealer to find out what was her towing limit? She has a 12 passenger Chevy van I don't recall the size of the engine. But the dealer told her that the van it's rated at 10,000 lbs for towing.

Jayco White Hawk 28dsbh sleeps 10 easily. But it isn't all that lite. The one I saw had a yellow sticker weight of 5600lbs.

On the other hand. My APEX 288BHS has the same floorplan, and a yellow sticker weight of 4811 lbs. Yes it sleeps 10 in comfort, Yes it is light. It is 31' bumper to ball. In truth has 5 full beds. Sofa sleeps 2, Dinette sleeps 2, Bottom bunk sleeps 2, and top bunk sleeps 2, Not to mention my queen in the front. So you see. No need to convert a toy hauler, or anything like that. The beds are already there. We do 10 people for a week at the beach.

The wall construction of Azdel gives it light weight, and high R value.

The OP asked for suggestions on what would sleep 9, is a senior member, and been on this forum for over 3 years. Why do you want to think no one knows what they are doing? Seems to me it is pointless to post something that doesn't answer the question that was asked.

Maybe once the find a trailer they like that sleeps 9 they'll figure out what they need for a tow vehicle. That's the way I would do it.

Curious you would target just me for your criticism :h ... did APT not ask the same thing, even before I did? i.e. - what's the intended tow vehicle? :@

Hey, no worries ... if the OP's daughter wants to buy a trailer then later decide it's way too big for them to tow, then have at it. That may be your approach as well but it certainly wouldn't be mine. :S

And FWIW (if anything :R ), I may be new to the forum but I'm certainly not to the sport, having owned a variety of trailers over the course of quite a few years, have probably 500 nights under our belts, towed many 10s of thousands of miles over pretty well every type of terrain and in most kinds of weather we get here in N America ... so yeah, I do have a "bit" of experience on which to offer what I believe can be useful commentary on a variety of topics relevant to those of us who RV camp. 😉

Um, Senior Member is just based on number of posts. It doesn't indicate any level of expertise. In fact, the OP seems quite comfortable asking for input on a variety of subjects.

So I'm with Sound Guy on believing it is smart to get info about the daughter's TV before making TT suggestions. With 9 people to transport, even a 350 series full sized van is likely to run out of payload capacity.

This is the same floor plan as mine (2013 springdale 303bhssr), we had some friends go camping with us for 2 days and we had a total of 4 adults, 5 kids, and 2 dogs. It was cramped but worked.

One thing I did to my Jayco to make it look brighter is to add framed posters hung with command picture hangers. I landscapes/floral photos that had bright green, bright pinks and wines. My upholstery has a bit of wine color. I then added other accessories in the green and pink. I removed the ugly dry-clean only bedspread and replaced with one that was a wine color and then added throw pillows through out in the brighter colors.

Much more appealing than the dark browns and taupes that were the main colors. My prints were actually photos that were taken when I was visiting different areas. I have a azalea garden woods scene, a sunset over the Mississippi River and a lake with the trees reflecting.

For what it's worth, Jayco has stated that all of their 2016 models will have lighter colored wood throughout. I've not seen interior pictures yet so I can't confirm how much lighter. Something to keep an eye on, maybe they got the memo.

To combat the depressing feel, look for something with lots of large windows. Unfortunately much of what is on the market today has only a couple of small windows and they are of the frameless type.

Mine has a triple bunk in it, it's advertised as sleeping 12, I would say it would sleep 8 comfortably and could easily sleep 9 depending on how big they are. Dutchmen Aerolite 282DBHS.

I 3rd the idea of a toy hauler...

And we have also been shopping around hoping something would JUMP out at us in the fifth wheel world.. Your daughter is in for a rude awakening... dark is in . . .

Hard pressed to find something that will honestly and even marginally sleep 9....without putting the older ones out in a tent.

I like the toyhauler suggestion from newman fulltime.

As far as decor...good luck with that....

Even transporting 9 with all their gear and toys and hauling a trailer may involve 2 vehicles.

They need to consider a toyhauler and convert the garage to sleeping quarters. It also cangive room for bikes
