New Truck

Well, the Frontier was getting a bit long in the tooth and we were always traveling with max payload. So went looking at Colorados because I still like the midsize trucks. However, the actual payloads were only 200 lbs more than the Frontier.
On a whim, I drove a new 2018 Silverado demo and ended up taking it home. Almost 1800 lbs of payload. Setting up the hitch, it dropped 1” in the rear and raised only 3/8” in the front. The manual says to return 1/2 the distance to the front. Gonna take some real tweaking to get that 3/16” back.
First trip will be just after Christmas going to St. Augustine. Also looks like I won’t need extension mirrors, either.
On a side note, found one of the Maxxis had a big ole hole in the tread. Bought Endurances and new rims. After swapping them out, another of the Maxxis was close to blowing. The tread was really distorted. At least they didn’t blow out on the road and died here at home. They were 5 years old and I was gonna get new tires this winter, anyway.

Thanks, guys.
The measurements were with the ball 1” higher than the tongue and no WD.
The truck itself sits rear high while empty.
I’ll take it to a parking lot to do the final tweaking with the WD chains hooked up.
I noticed the newer trucks sit high in the rear. My '17 Ford drops about 3-4 inches with a 7-800 lb hitch. I think you will be amazed at how that truck tows that trailer. The newer trucks have come a long way as far a towing. Congrats on the new truck.
Thanks.
I’ve got about 550 lbs or so on the hitch. The hitch itself dropped about 1 1/2”.
I’m looking forward to towing with the Silverado.

Kip is correct in returning the front 1/2 the distance. WDH are not for the purpose of leveling, they are used to transfer some weight to the front axle. If there is a problem with level, once the right amount of weight is transferred, then suspension upgrades may be needed.

Removing or adding too much weight to a truck axle may result in unsafe traction or handling.

I believe you use your WD hitch adjustments to re-level the TT.

On a level surface the dealer's Tech and I backed the truck to the level TT.

The ball was placed 1 inch above the top of the level ball socket.

The TT was dropped on the ball.

The WD hitch was adjusted to bring the rig level. Actually a bit nose down.

I took 7 links on the hitch. The dealer said it would need a link or two once the TT as loaded.
Twenty six foot 2010 Dutchmen Lite pulled with a 2011 EcoBoost F-150 4x4.

Just right for Grandpa, Grandma and the dog.
