So the King Ranch is heading out after 5 years of reliable service. Hopefully the new truck is as good. The cost of ownership was about 20,000 for fuel; 19,000 for depreciation; roughly 5500 for insurance and registration; 1650 for tires and repairs; 850 for oil and filters. Grand total of 47,000 for 5 years and 92000 miles. $.51/mile.....not bad eh.

Nice truck Terry, love the color also, post some picks of the inside so we all can droll!

Did you go with the darker leather color do to the wear on your old truck? That is the one thing I'm worried about with my truck is the light beige leather showing wear as it gets older!

I figured my '11 has strong resale value now and the new one was what I believed to be a good deal so I calculated that the old truck would have to remain trouble free for the next 5 years to come ahead financialy over trading. Had I kept the old one and then if something major were to go wrong with it, I'd be wishing I had traded.

I went through that exact same math with the 06 in my signature. (no, the 09 didn't replace it, I owned both at the same time, buying the 09 new in 09 and the 06 used 2 years ago)

I loved the 06, but I could no longer justify the need for two nice trucks, and rather than keep it and see the value go further and further down hill, I sold it 3 weeks ago.

While it is hard to tell which MY is which, I don't see how that offends someone. It's true of all the brands unless the body style changes.

Congrats on a very capable truck, class 3 SRWs are such a versatile beasts.

My wife's Acura has been a little more expensive but still relatively inexpensive to run. We have had it for 7 years and based on what I think we could sell it for I thinking the total cost of running it will be about $.58 per mile including fuel.

The best I ever did was on a 2007 Yukon Denali. I bought it used in 2007 with 17000 miles on it. It was an absolutely beautiful vehicle. We used it for over 2 years and put an additional 33000 miles on it. We had 150 in repairs, $150 on oil, $0 on tires and sold it in the spring of 2010 for exactly what we paid for it. With insurance and registration and discounting fuel it might have worked out to less than $.08 per mile. Fuel was expensive back then though. I remember filling it up in the city of Drumheller and it cost $150. That would have been enough fuel to go about 400 miles. So fuel then was the big cost of driving.....about $.37 per mile.

I was very fortunate to have been able to buy the 2011 at the price I did. I bought it preowned with 12 miles on the clock. The first owner never actually took delivery of the vehicle or even laid eyes on the truck for that matter yet the circumstances allowed me to get a smoking deal.

Not bad at all. Ignoring the fuel costs which must reflect all your towing, that's $0.29/mile. (Guessing your $$ are Canadian)

I got that low once years ago, buying and selling a used car, but never with a new vehicle, even one taken to the junk yard 'cause of high mileage (150K and salt damage).

Although maybe with the 2005 Passat TDI if we hadn't given it to the daughter. It's up in Northern BC where there's no salt on the roads, and might just last forever.

Looks like I might try trading in my 2011 F150 as well this Spring. Doubt if I'll do as well as you did though.

Congrats on the new truck. Love the colour.

Not for a while yet. I really like what we have but the exterior is looking its age. I've started looking into having it painted and replacing the decals to match the truck.

I have to ask...

This fall...can we get an updated pic of the platinum pulling 30k gooseneck with all those hay bails? That's one of my favorite pics ever posted on this forum.

Thanks!

Jeremiah

I love some of those memories as well. I think this is one of my favorite pics. I towed this thing about 150 miles down the freeway at 70 mph. The funnest part was driving right through the middle of a small city and pulling into the McDonalds parking lot with it. I think it put 1500 lbs on my receiver hitch. I am going to miss this ol' truck:

Good stuff... Thanks for sharing!

Make the "can my diesel handle 12k posts seem silly!
