I just purchased a softside Palomino Backpack SS 1240 and I was interested in any tips other softside owners might have, and things to look out for. I'm excited to start truck camping!

Yes with the fan over the bed (mine is too) you have to do exactly what you did. Knock on wood I have been lucky with mine and have not had any problems with the camper itself. When I de-winterized my drivers side front electric jack would not work. Evidently one of the relays in the board went bad but Rico sent me another board and all is well.

Thanks for the info. Tried the fan; worked like a charm (still tucked in at side posts) and stopped the top about 2-3" from full down to turn off the fan, then brought it the rest of the way down.

How do you do this, the power fan is over the bed and cant be used after top is down?

Also the first time I raised the top, there was a 3/8 gap on the right front, fron inside camper, felt wind and had to take off the cover that covers the front.
pulled out one of the screws.
fixed myself when I got home.
I like my palomino but QC is really bad.

congrats on the new TC. I had 2 pop-ups before my current TC. I liked the versatility especially in the backwoods.

One tip I can add is on lowering the top: zip up the sides, close the door and turn on the fan to exhaust. It will create a vacuum sucking the soft sides inward. Lower the crank and all the canvas will come to the inside- no need to walk around it ding the tucking-in thing.
Sold the TC, previous owner of 2 NorthStar pop-ups & 2 Northstar Arrows...still have the truck:
