On our Christmas camping trip we went to some caverns in Arizona. somewhere in/around Lordsburg, NM something his the front window of the Lance and shatters that large window. It's a double pane 4-seasons model and the interior pane was fine. Slapped some tape over it in an asterisk pattern, called the insurance company, and continued to camp. Went on several other camping trips since.
Our Lance is a 2015 model 1995. That was the year Lance decided to give more of a tear-drop shape to the nose, and switched the front window from a horizontal to a vertical. Oh, and somehow thought it was a good idea to leave off protection for that wonderful window. That was my first thought when I saw the trailer before buying. But it was the trailer we really wanted and had no choice.
It's a great window. We love it. On the inside it's got a beautiful hard valance that holds the day/night shades. But no hard cover for that picture window on the outside to protect it from flying stones/debris.
The replacement window unit arrived from Lance about a week ago and last night the glass repairman met us at the trailer and replaced it. I could not believe how easy it was. I've had them replace my vehicle windows before and though the same type of install would apply.
They removed the valance from the inside, exposing a couple dozen screws around the frame of the window. Took them off, and the entire unit just popped right out. No messy caulking or anything. All rubber seals. The new one slid right into the hole from the outside, and when screwed from the inside tightened that rubber right on up. Guaranteed not to leak for as along as we own it. If it weren't for the price of that window, I'd be half temped to just do it myself if it ever became an issue again, but the price of the deductible is about a fifth of the cost of that window.
This leads me to stop and think about installing some type of protection for that window. It's curved so a panel of sorts wouldn't be readily available. Maybe some rough canvas cut out the size of the window plus an inch or so and install some type of barrel clips on the RV with metal grommet holes or something on the canvas. I'll think of something. I just wanted to share how easy that was to do.
