Sanitizing Fresh Water Tank

I bought Thetford's Fresh Water Tank Sanitizer to use in my travel trailer. The tank needs to be flushed several times in the process. Whether you use this product, or just bleach, where do you dispose of the water while flushing the tank? I have the camper at my home and the nearest dump station isn't convenient.

Clorox bleach for outside is Bio degradable. I use to clean all the outside concrete. its never had any negative effects on the landscaping.

I just open the drain valve and let it dump on the ground under the trailer. The grass is all dead under the trailer anyway.

I'm with you RJCorazza. It does say it is for the fresh water tank, but I don't want to put a pesticide in there. I'll just use bleach. That seems to be what most people do.

Find a nearby fish stream to dump into. Seriously though you can also use hydrogen peroxide which will break down when exposed to light.

4 oz of 3% peroxide for 50 gallons to sanitize water in there. Higher to sanitize the tank after.

I thought that's what most people did, but the package said that it is considered a pesticide and "improper disposal of excess pesticide, spray mixture, or rinsate is a violation of Federal Law". I didn't know if the what I would drain was considered "rinsate". I'm guessing it is referring to disposing of unused sanitizer, not the very diluted sanitizer that comes out of fresh water tank with sanitizing.
Thanks for all the responses!
Rinsate would be any water that contains the product, regardless of dilution ratio.

Are you certain the product you are using is for the fresh water tank? Even from Thetford I would not use something that contains pesticides in my fresh water tank, flushed or not.

I drain mine into the city sewer system. But I'm fortunate in that I have a sewer cleanout right at the rear bumper of our TT where I park it in the back yard. It was installed there by the nice folks who built the house back in '81. I cut the cast iron cap off and installed a PVC one.

When draining the fresh water tank, I just open the kitchen faucet and bath tub faucet and let the pump pump the water into the gray tank, where I let it drain into the sewer. It works great, and I don't have a mud puddle in my back yard from draining the tank the 3 times it takes for sanitizing. 42 gallons x 3 is a lot of water. I drain the bleach water, then flush the tank two times after that.

That cleanout sure comes in handy if the line at the dump station is too long. I just wait until I get home to dump.
