Shimmy in the rear :) and one side hotter than the other

Tires I am talking here. About 2 weeks ago I rotated my tires on the Silverado. A few days after that we started to get a little shimmy/vibration at around 40-50 mph.

Drive train all checked out ok so I just figured one of the tires had gotten a flat spot when it was parked for 2 months this summer. The tire pressures were right on the 80lb mark each morning so I did not worry.

Today we were pulling the 5er north and I got a "tire pressure to high" warning on the display screen after we had gone about 30 miles down the freeway. I pulled over and verified it was not just the TPM sensor going bad. Then turned around and took the truck to Wal Mart. I figured it had to be the flat spot tire. I bought two new 265/75/16 tires for the rear and kept the old tires since they still had a lot of tread and looked just fine.

On closer inspection at home I found one of the tires had started to separate on the inside. Just to one side of the center of the tire a blister had started to form that went 2/3 of the way around the tire but was only about 1/2 of inch wide.

ANYWAY, The point I am trying to convey is that if your truck develops a vibration/shimmy coming from the rear end, it may be one bad tire getting hot.

I carry an infrared thermometer in the truck and Offroad Jeep. Occasionally carry my Flir for checking heat. The Flir makes everything obvious.

Good catch!
Just goes to prove, we need to pay attention to our vehicles!
If something doesn't feel right, sound right, or smell right, we need to check into it further before the problem gets more serious and more expensive
