Short bed long bed

Our truck was stolen in Miami last month. We are stuck here awaiting a new purchase. Would like to know the advantages or differences in long bed/short bed and sliding hitches. Pulling a 35 foot Jayco 5th wheel.

It's all about what you use and need the truck for. We tow a bumper pull horse trailer and often drive and park in areas where space is a premium. This is why we chose a S/B. If I were a contactor or we towed a big 5th wheel we would have bought a DRW L/B.

We have had the truck for 11 years and so far no one has mistaken me for a girl...

x2 Yea, I'll haul the gals in my SB and you can have the guys in your LB!

Really though I would prefer the LB with a 5ver, a SB is just fine for TT's. I also like my SB when it comes to going off-road and general parking lots anymore.

I really don't care so much what it looks like. I care about what it can do.

Anything less than a Standard 8' bed is a short bed.

You must not have seen the post I called you out on on page one did you?

I did.

"I'll tell you what. You bring all you can haul with your rig and I'll use my short bed girly truck and haul it plus some"

Not sure what you meant so I did not respond.

Tow the same weight up a mountain? You would probably win.

Most weight in the bed? I would win.

Did not know this was a contest.

I had a 77 GMC shorty. Nice truck but hated the short bed. 35 years in construction.

We are not talking about construction. We are talking about long bed vs short bed and the ability to be able to take stuff with us on a camping trip. Some people like to put a genny in their truck. Some people will just mount it to the rear of the camper. Bikes? Can go on the rear also.
I'm just saying that there is pretty much always a different way to skin a cat. The way you long bed guys are it seems is that if you don't buy a long bed truck that you will have to leave something at home.

Short bed trucks are for girls? I'm sure there are people that say that large RV's with A/C and running water that run off of gennies are for girls.

It's not a contest just a point that I was making. If you can get it to the camp ground with your long bed truck then I can get it there with my short bed.

BTW, I only have 25 years in construction so I guess you beat me there old man.LOL jk. My company truck has a 9' bed and I have hauled 40' bar joist on it with no problem. Could have done it with a 6'5' bed. It's called the right tool for the job and you don't need a long bed to RV.

Cummins,

Do you have any other rules that we should all live by? Get what you want and if you think that men only have 8 foot beds and the rest of us are "girls" more power to you.

I know with GM trucks, long beds typically have 34 gallon fuel tanks and short beds are 26. The extra capacity helps with not having to stop as frequently.

I like the extra room in a LB (8') for whatever i'm haulin. Whether it's furniture, bark, 8' piece of plywood or my camper especially. Most people don't NEED it, but it's nice to have. As far as looks (very secondary) the only combo I think looks funny is a SB and a crew, just my opinion.

I guess I'll let the cat out of the bag with a bad picture but here's the newest addition to my toys. "crew cab" short bed.....

Honestly, that's a good lookin truck brother. Just put the tailgate down if you gotta haul some plywood!:C

Nah, I'll just let it lay on top of the tailgate. If I have to get very much I'll just take the trailer.;)

Some of us don't need that extra compensation and training wheels. :B

Thanks Hannibal. It means a lot coming from a Ram hater....:p :B

Huh? I beg thy pardon!:h My next truck will probably be another Ram, my 6th. If for no other reason, the seats.
