Simple Green Cleaner for Your Roof

Has anyone used Simple Green cleaner for the rubber roof. The tree sap and road dust has my roof looking terrible.

I also use Dawn, have been for over 20 years. Does a good job with a little elbow grease and a scrub brush. I use one with a stick handle to keep off them bad knees, a lot less effort needed. Surely does remove the wax from sides but when roof is done, I wash and wax TT and good for another six months.

I use plain old RV wash and wax. Gets it clean. No, it doesn't remove stubborn stains. But no one sees them except me. And it doesn't take the wax off the sides while washing.

I use Korkey camper cleaner... Start on the roof and work my way down to the tires...

My owners manual says to use mild dish soap. Palmolive with oxy-clean. it works wonders!

Dawn is great stuff, just beware, it will remove the wax on the sides. If anyone has done a Zaino treatment, they would know, the first step is to wash the vehicle with Dawn detergent to remove the wax. 🙂 So if you are going to wax the trailer, do it after washing the roof with Dawn.

Simple Green is a good cleaner, but I too have noticed a slight film after using it. I use it to clean the slime off my Glow Fuel RC planes. That is some nasty stuff that is a real PITA to remove, and Simple Green does a good job cleaning it off, but I notice a slight slippery feel to the planes after they sit for a while, and it isn't the residue from the fuel as that stuff becomes sticky after it sits.

I think you are making a wise choice. I have no doubt that Simple Green will clean well but I don't know what long term damage could be caused by using citrus products in the stuff. Why take a chance?

I think I.ll stick with the Dawn dish soap. A fellow camper told me he used Simple Green and said it worked pretty good . I wanted to see if any of you used it too.

That works well too, never had any issues. Simple green may contain citric acid but it is not as harsh as some of the dollar store citric acid cleaners.

This is the best advice: "See what your RV owner’s manual says."

Depending on roofing material, dish washing soap has been recommended for a long time.

I've never really liked Simple Green. It always leaves a slimy feeling film that is hard to get rid of. Takes lots of water to remove. I certainly would not use it on my roof. Dawn is my go to cleaner.

I just found the answer to my question here. Under step 5 he says to use a mild cleaner like Dawn dish washing liquid and never use a product containing petroleum solvents or citrus ingredients.

Have any of you ever used Dawn dish washing detergent on your rubber roof? How effective was it?

Simple Green will etch glass . I left some drippings set on my Allegra Bay Bus windshield over nite , had to take it to a glass shop and they polished the spots out .
