Small portable gas can:

I'm going to be bringing my Honda eu2000i because of the heat on an upcoming trip to the UP. I'll mostly be boondocking and don't have a small gas can that isn't 100% leak proof, only want a 1 or 2 gal. that will fit between TC and front of truck bed. I'm trying to see what your using other than the ridiculously priced rotopax 1 gal. can. I would like to also use this on my motorcycle tpips hence the no leak, glass is out of the question, Thanks in advance, K Mac

I use two 5L NATO-style cans for generator fuel. Totally sealed. They are tough. I carry them in the generator compartment of the TC.

Similar to this but thinner and taller:

I like the NATO military style cans, and there are many places that sell new and true surplus cans in many different styles. Theyโ€™re rugged and leakproof, and the spout for the 20 liter cans can be used on the smaller sizes as well. The cap/spout gasket is replaceable.

In addition to Lexington Container above, there is also:

Atlantic British (Land Rover parts)

Wavian

Jerrycan.com

One place that your search engine may miss is Swiss Army Vehicles in Fayetteville, AR. Theyโ€™re a distributor of European military vehicles, parts and surplus, and they have some of the best prices on jerrycans around. Click on the โ€œArmy Surplusโ€ tab to find them.

When I bought my four cans several years ago, they were selling true NATO surplus cans at great prices. Iโ€™m in Fayetteville often enough that I could drop by and pick through their stock for the best ones. It looks like theyโ€™re selling new cans now, and you will have a hard time finding better prices. They do run out of them though, so you may have to watch their website for a while. It appears they have at least some to sell right now. If youโ€™re in the area, drop by and you can also look at some of those cool military vehicles they sell.

I always carry a 20L can of Diesel fuel on the rear bumper of the camper. I have occasionally had to use it. I also need to carry a small can of gasoline for the Yamaha 1000 I always have with us, so I bought a 5L can from Atlantic British. Thatโ€™s where I got the 20L can holder you can see in the picture below (just the black frame, the rest is repurposed material from my junk pile) and the spouts Iโ€™m using.

Those are the only style cans we can use on the job and they last forever, unless they get run over, lol. But they're not a good solution for the spacially challenged camper, like myself and most with truck campers.
Actually the only good use for the newer ventless gas cans is camper generator gas, IMO.

Cheap gas can options of the metal flavor are used paint thinner/ lacquer thinner/ Coleman fuel cans. They're made to contain solvents.

How about bringing something like this along? https://www.lowes.com/pd/TRUFUEL-110-fl-oz-4-Cycle-Fuel/50328935

It's basically $20 a gallon but if you plan to top off your gen when you can at a gas station, one can of this should provide insurance just in case.

I have a few of the spun aluminum 1 1/2L fuel containers used with small hiking stoves. They come in various colors including gasoline red. They're small enough that I can put them in an outside storage space.

Some where in my hiking gear (from 40 years ago) I have a 1L fuel bottle like that, made from aluminum and it never leaked.

A quick Google search and 1.5L are the largest. 3L is a little less than 3 quarts.

I have 4 of them, that makes about 1 1/2 gal. Leak proof, odor proof, easy to store anywhere.

My first thought was something like these too

MSR Fuel Bottle

But after you bought enough to carry a gallon you might as well get a Rotopax.

I use a boat tank plumbed into an extended run fuel cap on the Honda carried in a cargo box on my front receiver.

Still wondering how the OP plans to get the fuel out from between the front of the camper and truck bed. :h

FWIW, in case anyone is interested, you can get an adapter for 5 gallon metal Jerry cans to let you use them as a tank for the Honda generators.

Jerry Can Adapter

This same company has smaller Jerry Cans as well.

I've never seen such an adapter for the Rotopax cans, but I'm pretty sure I've figured out how to build my own.

The 2 gallon RotoPax looks really good except that the spout is stored inside the container.

I use a pair of 2 gallon RotoPax mounted on the bumper of my AF990. They have been across the country, up and down the Rockies and never leak. Worth the price.

I use a 3 gallon boat tank and one of those hose kits so it can run my Honda. It don't stink either. I carry both either on my front rack, inside a box or on another external rack I carry behind my jeep liberty which I flat tow.
