Step for entrance, DIY

Our 1978 NuWa truck camper has a fold-down step, but as the camper sits high on the Chevy diesel, we have been using a MILK CRATE for a ground step and to get in and out. But we need to build a folding, higher and safer step to carry with us. I can do this, but would like some ideas on design, etc. THANKS MUCH.

Little Giant freestanding has the added benefits of being able to use for other things (camping or not), and being more flexible to position at an angle, over a trailer tongue, unlevel surface (with blocks), etc.

If you build a step make sure it is wider at the bottom than the top. This will help prevent it from rolling under you r foot if you step on the edge.

I would also recommend Torklift if purchasing but there are other companies, I previously had a set of Brophys, Hijacker is another. Less cost but you said make.
Cant really help there far as making. I know a lot of folks use the short ladders. I have a hard enough time with attached steps let alone something that can move..

When I bought my previous cabover back in the 1980's the owner built steps for it out of plywood, maybe 3/8"? He covered them with astroturf. They worked very well. The width was just enough to go through the back door. The astroturf protected the cabinets if the steps rubbed them. They were light enough to easily lift into the camper and store when traveling. I think they had 2 steps.
I need to build a set for this camper. I'm not too crazy about the folding aluminum ones.

I use xtend and climb 3 step. It has good size steps, folds up nice. I make hooks and pin it to the ladder.

Don't know how many steps you need, but Glow Steps by Torklift seems to be the only choice easy to buy.
They come in 2 widths and would I know, I would go for wider ones as narrow steps when you go 5 up don't feel too secure.
I made a topic how to make the best of it with latest additions of Stow'n go bracket.
Originally steps come with 1/2 height on the top, what doesn't work well with step bumpers.
Working with other forum member, I was able to rearrange the brackets to make first step level with bumper, what is great improvement.
