Went away this past week and upon opening my awnings, I was amazed at the amount of these NASTY little critters that where inside of them. Between both , I'd say seventy to eighty in every part of the awnings mechanisms. Just thought I'd throw it out there as a heads up to check here before you put your units away for the season. Amazingly only had one inside.

the flea collar does sound like an interesting idea. luckily I don't have a issue with them getting in as of now.

luckily no sting bugs on the wet side of WA (that I know of) but I am fighting black flies in my camper. I give them a good dose of raid and keep all windows closed. an hour later there are dozens of dead flies, disgusting but better dead then alive. I don't know where they come from I guess I need to cover every vent/opening with a fine mesh screen

does anyone use mothballs or anything else? I like the idea of a flea collar but not sure it would work on flies.

My dealer told me to put dog flea collars in my compartments to prevent bugs/spiders from getting into plumbing areas. I do it and don't seem to have bugs.

we get those stink bugs here in eastern Washington too. last year and this year around this time they have been hanging out on the camper trying to find a spot for the winter. this time of year they move slow if at all. so I just flick them off and squish them. I have yet heard of any way to keep them from coming around. I have screens for my furnace and fridge vents to keep bugs out.

Walleye, those are good ladybugs, just a different species imported to control crop pests. But they are good, honest ladybugs. They just have that annoying habit in cooler climates of trying to overwinter in attics and campers. The smell on those guys, Harmonia axyridis, is the same as any American ladybug. You just don't smash the others often enough!

:B

They are good in the garden. Not so good inside. I lived in Michigan YEARS ago and I'm still finding crusty ladybug bits in things I had in my attic.

Instead of stink bugs, we had lady bugs (not the good kind). People here call them Japanese beetles, but they look like lady bugs with different spots. When you touch them or smash them, they smell bad. That's why birds won't eat them.

Anyway, we had hundreds of them! We would think we got them all and 20 more would appear in the TC. They covered the outside and flew everywhere. It's this way every Sept/Oct. Some years are worse than others...this was one of them.

The first brown marmorated stink bug collected in the USA was found a few miles from where I type this. They hardly phase me anymore.

They look for places to come over-winter when it starts getting cool in the fall. I'm not sure there's a way to beat 'em. At least they don't bite.

We had HUNDREDS of them between the inner and outer slideseals a few years ago while staying in Maryland during the fall months.

We had to vacuum them out before closing the slides! I still find a dead one now and again. It was so bad I'll never go back to that part of the country in the fall...it is apparently ground zero for the Asian stink bug invasion.

They got in my furnace one year, had to remove it and tear it apart to clean them out! Since the, I've installed a bug screen on the outside and keep a temporary cover over the grate on the inside. I hate them!!!
