You are welcome.

I often felt looked down upon while serving. It is always very nice to hear thanks. I really appreciate genuine thanks.

Many thanks to the op and his family for their service. Also to skipro3 for his dedication to the wounded warrior project. As a non-veteran I can never thank all veterans enough for all our freedoms as I can never fully know or understand their sacrifice. As we attended the Veterans Day service this morning in our home town I felt humbled and privileged to be there. It is the veteran that guaranteed that right .As the various speakers continued with program once again I realized it is the veteran that guaranteed that right. It is the veteran that guaranteeโ€™s all our rights and freedoms. I have not found the words that are sufficient to say thank you enough.
Today, near the end of the program as taps was being played, we noticed an older gentleman in his US AIR FORCE uniform standing beside us. He had a tear on his cheek my wife turned and gave him a hug and thanked him for his service. It put new meaning in the words โ€œthank you for your serviceโ€ for me as I realized I will never know just how much sacrifice many have made.
Again thank you and may you find peace in your minds and soul.

I saw a lot of old folks today... men with a ball hat or a pin.... quietly signeling other vets.... a quiet thank you. None were looking for a free meal, a free drink, or a politician making big show...

Thanks to all of you that served, and all of the families that had a loved one make the ultimate sacrifice to keep our country free.

Thanks for the rememberence. I was in the USAF during the Viet Nam era. A hell of a price to pay for what what we got out of it. AF and Air Nat'l Guard total 40 years, 9 months and 6 days. Wouldn't trade a day of it for anything.

Heartfelt thanks to those that served, especially those who served during wartime. My single enlistment during peacetime was pretty tame, relatively speaking.

This is me in Sept. '78 after only 11 months in the USAF. Nineteen years old, fresh outta tech school, and being the new guy, the only thing I was trusted to do was ride the brakes while moving one of the helicopters. My pic ended up on the front of the base newspaper though. :B

These helicopters had an interesting mission; they had a MARS (Mid Air Retrieval System) installed to catch unmanned drones as they were parachuting down after flying around over the Gulf of Mexico.

Here's a link to a page on an AF helicopter website that has some great pic's of this unique operation. Several of the tail numbers mentioned on this page are helicopters that I knew personally from my time at Tyndall AFB.

When I was discharged in 1981, I had made E-5, I was crew-chief of two of these, and had grown up considerably.

There are a lot of TC-toting vets on this forum. I am, as it appears one of many, who owe a great debt of gratitude to them. I still get verklempt thinking about all the men and women "who died to make men free." Many of the hard-core vets on here will probably not reply. We were in Flagstaff for most of the week this past week and a trombone-toting Army veteran and I were reminiscing about our 'faux' service. He played in TUSAB (The United States Army Band) and I played trombone in the 562d U.S.A.F. Band. He and I both played with the L.A. Philharmonic and retired the same year. Faux is the fact that we never had to dodge bullets, sleep in the mud, loose our hearing due to shell explosions, or loose our tomorrow.
Pax in aeternum those that gave the ultimate sacrifice. In manus tuas, Domine, commendo spiritum meum. (Into thy hands, O Lord, i commend my spirit)
regards, as always, jefe

As a child of a WWII vet I would also like to thank all who serve and a special thanks to all those who served in the "Big One" who are still with us. May God help us to prevent that from ever happening again.
