I have a '09 dodge 2500 quad cab short bed. I plan on upgrading my TH in the near future from a bumper pull to a 5er. I currently have a rail mount tool box, but had planned to swap over to a flush mount box. will it be in the way of the hitch/ trailer?

when I bought my 2005 dodge 2500 short bed, it had a flush mount tool box in side the bed and hitch rails in the bed of the truck.

I have a bumper pull trailer so I sold the flush mount tool box and installed my over the bed rails tool box off my old truck.

only thing that I hated to give up was my long bed, for months all I could think of was that, short bed trucks are for girls.

But I am over it now, if I have anything to haul, I just pull my small utility trailer.

I realize now what a issue it is to park a quad cab truck with a long bed in a city parking lot or on the court sq, you have to go at least a block away and find two open parking spaces to park,

so I am good now, short bed trucks do have a place in the world, if they have double cabs.

I used a flush mount in my 2004 Chevy with a lot of room left over.
Currently RV-less but not done yet.

Many years ago I bought a tool chest for my then '84 Isuzu P'up diesel. It turned out to be perfect for the full size truck. It just fits between the bed rails and with two pieces of 4X4 wood post, it sits almost level with the bed rails. And to think it looked huge on the P'up. The front hitch rail is almost touching the wood that is even with the face of the tool chest. Anything bigger wouldn't fit. If I have the hitch in the front set of rails, the jaw release handle hits the lid if I don't move it out of the way before closing the lid. With the hitch in the back set of rails centered 12" behind the axle, I have about 15" between the hitch and box.
