We've had a rolling bed cover for years, and on this last trip the cover split. Second time, and this time I am not going to replace it. But I still need secure storage. Going with a cross-bed toolbox instead. But I've never owned one.

Looking for interesting ideas on how to store typical truck stuff in your tool boxes, including bottle of fluids. Plus tools, cords, cables.

If you have something special you've done, I would like to see it. Trays, dividers, whatever organizer method you've got.

Yes! I debated over a chest versus this low profile. I've got a long bed and the fiver has the clipped corners, plus I'm at over 7" of clearance over bed rails. I still think it could hit if I got really cranked over and twisted, but being aware I think it can be avoided.

Thanks for all your inputs. I found this cheap on Craigslist and installed it this morning. Kobalt is the Lowes brand, but it is the Better Built product, which they make no effort to hide at all.

Try getting into that type when hitched. My Dad had one from HighwayProducts and he sold it.

From your description, it sounds like your cover was fabric.

Have you considered a metal rolling cover, like the RollBak G2? I put one on my truck 9 years ago, no regrets.

The entire bed can be a toolbox if you so choose. This cover also is a very low profile, attracting little attention. And everything in the bed is out of sight...

Happy shopping!

Yeah, that would be the one that I recommend also. On my truck, (RAM 2500CTD CC 4WD 8' bed) a crossover type wouldn't work cause I couldn't reach it from the ground. The one in the "clicky" has lots of room to set it up any way you want. But you do have to get in the bed to access it, which I have no problem- kind of- doing, plus just a little more of a theft deterrent. Sorry I don't have pics, but nothing written in stone as to how we pack it up. Just put everything in it and off you go. I carry a bottle jack, compressor, gas cans, towing straps and chains, tools, extension cords. etc. No dividers or trays. My Honda generators and other stuff ride (securely) in the bed.

I was VERY lucky to find this years ago on CL. I drove 3 hours to buy it for $350, if new it would have been around $1,000. Used it in my 98 RAM 2500 and then my 11 RAM DRW and now 15 RAM DRW.

FYI it was the "PROPER" size for the 98. It fills the space side to side on my 11 and 15 with the sides of the box touching the "D" rings on the side of the box. If I ordered one for the newer trucks it would be 5" or so narrower so you could reach the hooks. The box is bed height that is a BIGGIE for towing a 5er. It's 30" front to back.

Box has a tray inside that slides side to side along with a storage section low to the front for oil bottles etc.

Simply TOP QUALITY!!! OH and the hitch is fairly good.

Well this is a link that may or may not work. Not sure why this site continues to use a 1990's system of posting photos. But check out Highways product website and go to pickup pack.
