Travel Lite TC Owners?

I feel like I'm the only one on this forum. The search I did only came up with a couple owners who had issues with their Travel Lites. I know that every brand has it's issues and each camper is different depending on who put it together, and lots of times the only time you hear from someone is when there's a problem. So I was wondering, who else around has a TL TC and is having a great time with it? I hope there's more. It'd be nice to hear the good and bad, and share common problems and fixes with each other.

Have to give a thumbs up to my dealer, Gloucester RV, for taking care of me. They finished up today and it's all ready to go. Upon removing a few pieces of siding he was able to confirm no water damage. Apparently he was correct with his assessment of the glue/epoxy eating the aluminum siding (which did get a small area wet from rain but no rot and it is dried out now). While he was there he also removed the pass through window and rotated it 180 degrees so that it opens on the correct side and actually opens up at the center of the truck rear window instead of to one side. I still can't understand why Travel Lite did the window like that. He also fixed the leak at the air conditioner gasket and resealed everything on the roof and the rest of the camper too. Makes me feel better. Not about Travel Lite, but about someone actually caring and making an effort.
Now I need to determine if I should try and sell it while the condition is like it is, or get a custom cover and hope for the best. There could still be problems in places we can't see and don't know about.

BTW, I did forward this thread to Travel Lite and asked them to please send the parts I need and help all of us who have major issues with their products and to please call me. I did receive a reply mentioning the siding was sent at great cost to them (as if I should grateful?) and to have a nice day. Guess I'm on my own now...warranty is over.

Sorry had to change the theme a bit. I have a new to me 2011 800 and so far not a leak and not a problem. Love the camper. One thing that is bothersome is, there are so many unhappy Travel Lite owners and this being an extremely popular rv forum you have to believe that staff at Travel Lite see these negative comments. Why not make good and back their product up publicly? It would be nice to believe that there is still pride in workmanship. But I suppose that's a dying concept. Good luck to you people and I hope I don't have the issues some of you have.

Keith - Having a custom fit cover when you're not using the camper might just help prevent unwanted moisture from getting in and prevent anymore issues.

If I used one of those custom fit covers when it isn't being used, would that help preserve it?

I was thinking the other day, why don't they use treated wood so that if/when water gets it, the whole structure isn't compromised?

I don't know what's going to happen, Travel Lite still hasn't sent my dealer the replacement siding!!! I guess he's going to have to source his own and get reimbursed. I tell ya, if my dealer wasn't as good of a guy as he is I might be compelled to take a match and lighter fluid to it. And then drop it off at Travel Lite's front door.

I am hoping that my leaky roof is fixed now. I had to make a three hour run again down to the RV repair facility last week that replaced the roof for me in October. It started leaking again for the third time on me so now I'm really hacked off at this point. They discovered that whoever put the new roof on for me in October didn't seal the corners properly where the roof meets the cap. They didn't charge me for this latest fix as it was their fault to begin with. On the way back home I ran into a torrential downpour and when I got home I found the camper to be dry as a bone. That should have been a very good test to see if she would hold up and it did so hopefully I've got my camper's roof fixed for good. Other than this I've never had a problem at all with this camper.

So sickening to seed that TC manufacturers, RVs of all kinds as well, put out so many products with what amounts to no warranty and have the gall to charge the prices they do. It would appear with the majority of manufacturers not standing behind their product for more than 6 months and usually only 90 days to begin with they know the product will fail sooner rather than later leaving buyers holding the stinky bag. That's one big reason we went with a very old camper that had escaped rot and a minimal investment means not as much to lose. So far so good but I'm paranoid with constant inspections top to bottom checking for any potential leaks. Again, hate to hear sad stories like yours, it's almost like a death in the family.

Wow!

Heartbreaking to read these troubles folks are having.

You buy something with the dreams and expectations of the adventure to be had and then reality sets in.

Crushing disappointment, must be for those owners.

Best of luck to each and everyone, hope your dreams can be fulfilled somehow.

Wish i knew. I am thinking about looking into a B van when i get rid of my current piece of junk. We love to camp/travel but could live just fine with less RV drama. I know B vans will have issues as well but i have to think that rot issues would be minimal. The number one problem affecting RV's is water damage,be it from rain, washing, water line leaks, etc. My current TC has NEVER been washed and i avoid rainy conditions like the plague, especially driving in the rain. When washing i wipe the grime, bugs, etc off with a wet cloth. I also store my jacks in the rear floorboard of my truck to keep em out of water and away from the crud. I could go on and on but i think you get my drift.

The problem with B vans is $$$$$ . They are really spendy , new or used.

That really stinks to hear. So since we share the similar experiences, and you have more of them...where does that leave us? What to do now?

Upon loading up for the first time of the summer, I noticed some bubbling under the finish near the driver's side front jack. We headed out to the Outer Banks, NC and to Ocracoke Island for a long father's day weekend. At least it was a great time. I was loving this camper.
Yesterday I wanted to see what the damage does so I poked it with a screwdriver and it's all rotten and wet underneath. I'm positive the damage affects a much larger area than I can see. This is just awful. We bought new so we wouldn't inherit someone else's problems and this is exactly what I wanted to avoid. I don't think I can take being a truck camper owner, everyone I personally know who has one, has rot problems. I want to love this thing but I can't.
Our local dealer sucks and doesn't pay attention to detail. I guess I'm taking this to the factory for warranty repair and then going to cut my losses and sell it.
My wife and I have been trying to be "RV People" for years now and it just fights us every step of the way. Our first was a pop up that leaked and the canvass ripped and molded. It made way for a travel trailer whose frame eventually cracked on us. I tried a gently used Aliner a frame camper that also leaked to point the a frame rotted. Now this one has rotted and it's not even a year old. If someone could make something...anything...that doesn't leak and rot we might try one more time. But now, I don't trust anything and I think we are done. Yet we truly liked the truck camper and the ability to go anywhere we wanted. Travel Lite has let me down. The rep on the phone sounds truly interested in fixing this correctly for me, but he did mention I need to get there int he next 3 weeks because they are strict on the warranty period. Leaves me to believe they will just get me in and out quickly and out of their sight and warranty period.

So sorry to hear of your problems as they really hit a nerve. Your RV experiences mirror ours. We too have owned various RV's with similar results (all new}. They were all different brands/types and include an 80k Newmar Mountain Aire fifth wheel. They were all meticulously maintained and all were garaged and yes they all were/are junk, including the one i own now. So sad the state of QC in the RV industry. Again so sorry you are experiencing the same woes as we have with RV's. If it makes you feel any better on the last 3 i have owned i never even made it home from the dealer before experiencing major problems. The two truck campers leaked in multiple locations and the Newmar had to go back to the factory 3 read 3 times and was still not repaired after 4 years of ownership. Good luck to you.

I wish I had read this thread before I bought my trailer 2 years ago.
In summer of 2013, I bought a brand new Travel Lite i17 travel trailer. After a year, the rear left roof corner has a water leakage and costs me 1500$ to fix it. The problem is due to lack of caulking around the screws on the side molding and insufficient rubber roof rolled down underneath the molding. The repair guys said this trailer is defective and the problem was born in day 1. Called manufacture and they won't help since the damage was identified after 1 year! Recently there is another water leakage in the other corner around the skylight. Not sure how the water gets there because all the outside sealant looks good to me. Now I have to make another repair. This time I will let them open the entire roof and check if there is more water leakage elsewhere. If you are in search of a trailer, stay away from this brand.

I replaced the rubber roof on mine in October of last year because of a water leak where the rubber roof meets the nose cap at the seam. Everything was fine until another leak showed up during Memorial Day weekend. I took the camper back to where I had the new roof put on last year and they apparently didn't put a new gasket or seal around the air conditioner when they were putting it back up on the roof and they also didn't seal up a 3/16th inch screw hole which caused the latest leak. They admitted that they were at fault so they didn't charge me anything for the fix. Everything seems to be fine now since I caught these leaks in time before they became a serious problem. I'm not seeing any other issues to be concerned about right now like several others on this Forum have had but I will keep a close eye on things to see if they ever do develop. I really do like this camper and enjoy it immensely and it's good to know that mine was built before the fiasco of 2013 or 2014.

I think I have the oldest TL in this thread 9/03 800. I bought it third hand from a couple on Long Island, and a storm called Sandy! I found rot under the two driver side jack stand supports. I got a bucket full of what looked like wood mulch from where the support structure was supposed to be. I blamed this on Sandy. I replaced all the bad wood with new, knock on wood (pun intended) everything is fine now. I think I should do a pressure leak test soon.

We have tweaked a few things to our tastes, a curtain in place of the bathroom door, replaced all lights with LEDs.

Otherwise we love to camp in our TL TC.
