Truck camper help!

Hey there, New to this site and also truck campers and was just looking to get a littlehelp here. I was just given a 9 and 1/2 foot truck camper, though he does not know how much it weighs. I assume its from the mid eighties as well. The only question I had was, would I have any trouble hauling this in a half ton truck? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.
Also, the truck is a 1991 Chev Silverado 1500, if that is relevant.

Not true. I have had hard side campers on both 1/2 ton and mini trucks. You may not get a separate bathroom or forced air heating or a large fridge but they are do the job very well for those who can "rough it".

I have a hard side now, a light one but I'm well over. I'll be upgrading my truck this winter. But with 1/2 ton pickups having 1500 lb payloads or less, what models are you talking about...the camper would have to have a dry weight under 1000 lbs to even have a shot.

Or you can get you a cheap trailer and mount it on that if the Camper is worth saving.

Even not knowing the weight of the camper, you can make an educated guess as to the weight based on campers of the same era and even more modern campers of similar size.

I agree with Tony's assessment that the camper weighs around 2500lbs. Even at 2000lbs, you're starting where most 1/2 ton camper operators end up. Like Tony said, you haven't even packed for the trip yet.

I'm sure you could load it for a one-time move, but as far as regular camping, no.

Beware though that if the camper is older than 1987 or so, it probably won't even fit in the truck! Around 1987 all the truck manufacturers started changing the sizes of their boxes, making them smaller and narrower.

Yeah the truck will be very overloaded. Dry camper probably comes in at 2500+ and the payload for your truck is about 1500. Load up the camper with supplies and add some people and you are like double your capacity....
