Yep, stupid mistake... Getting ready for a 7000 mile trip so I installed a new deep cycle heavy duty battery on the TT. Now the stupid part. I wasn't paying attention and reversed the positive and negative. :o. The refrigerator won't work now. When I try to turn it on all the indicator lights come on. Power, Auto, Gas, AC, Battry.... But the fridge doesn't choose one or come on. :S Called the dealer and he said he's booked till May but I begged and cajoled and he said I can bring it in Tuesday. Everything else seems to be working. What else might I have fried? What else should I look for? What should I have him check? I could kick myself for such a rookie mistake....

Oh come on... How stupid do you think I am? Do you think I'd make the same mistake twice? What are the odds? :h
lol, we'll see. ๐Ÿ™‚

I use red and black heat shrink. It's the easiest method I've found and it also serves to seal up the space between the terminal and the wire.

Glad to hear nothing was permanently damaged, though.

Some refrigerators have a fuse in the rear, ours does but what a bear to get to. It will make you dig up earhtworms, tie them it knots and rebury them.

Like I said, you are not the first, that's why they have fuses and circuit breaks. Be nice if they didn't hide them from us! ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for the update.

Someone mentioned the plus and minus signs. Often, they are hard to see -- that is why color coding the terminals and the cables can provide additional guidance for those of us with less than great eyesight (like me).

I just got out my copy of the NEC and 551.1 says "The provisions of this article cover the electrical conductors and equipment other than low-voltage vehicle circuits or extensions thereof, installed within or on recreational vehicles ...".

Additionally, I don't think Art. 200 applies to low voltage circuits either.

My copy is several years old so maybe things have changed.

Electrical installation is one of the major problems with RV manufacturers. They do not follow the appropriate sections of the NEC.
Many portions of RVs and RV parks of NEC 551 is followed.
However they do not follow NEC Art 200 where white and grey wires are to be used for neutrals only.

Does the NEC apply to the manufacture of RVs? I thought they were built to RIVA standards. I know RV parks and RV power cord wiring (where it connects to the grid) are subject to NEC and I think park model trailers and mobile homes might be subject to NEC but I didn't think RVs were.

That might explain why there are different color codes used. I know folks say they should be black and red (like a car) but I think every RV I've had was black and white but I'm not sure.
