It dosn't fit it is too small going into the gray line. I was wondering if a 1/2" copper flare fitting would work.

Okay, you have polybutelene pipe which is a different material than pex.

You'll need a sharkbite adapter to go from the older gray pipe to pex to tbe 1/2" mpt to connect to your water heater.

Specifically a 1/2" Polybutylene to Pex adapter. Its a push and done part, costs more than the clamp band variety, but it will successfully adapter from your old pipe to the modern stuff.

online shows it at HD/lowes if you have the sharkbite tools, ring also needed. Assuming line end

I love the sharkbite fittings and will opt for that first every time. Sure it's a little pricey but well worth it to me. I keep a little bit of pex, a cutter and a few extra fittings in the basement, just in case.

I bought the fitting at Lws however, The female threaded end screws in to the tank ok but the brass part has too much play and does not fit the tubing tight enough. Also tried Hmdept with out luck.

The original fitting going into the water pipe is plastic and a bit wider than the brass.

The water tubing is blue and snugged up with the a copper ring.

I have a few things to get ready on the camper for the winter in AZ. Maybe look for some gold there.

I would like to post a pic of my rig but getting a photo in is too much trouble.

Is your pipe gray in color by any chance?

Similar to ours.
Ours and most use a swivel connection that threads onto water tank. Ive seen pictures of fittings without swivel that were threaded onto tank and then lines crimped on-
hopefully yours isn't one of those- a bit more involved.

I prefer those kind of Pex clamps, they're about 10,000 times easier to remove than the copper band type. A pair of end cutters and a good twist will usually break the clamp band, then its just a matter of prying it loose with some needle nose pliers and a flat head screw driver.
