I have a 95 Lance Squire and the WH has seen better days. Whats envolved in removing and replaceing it with a new one. I've never been able to flush as the drain nut is frozen solid and I can't get it to move.I've owned it for 10 years and it gets used quite a bit. The control(gas)valve has it's share of problems to and should be replaced. It still works fine but due to all these things I'm thinking a installing a new one. The camper is great for the 2 of us and is in xlnt shape and is all we need. What do you fine folks reccomened. The control valve has no lable to tell me what model it is. Just thinking as it does need some attention. I pretty handy at stuff like this so I'm sure I can handle it.

We had to replace ours as it had been frozen at some time before we got it and just bypassed rather than replaced. The trim was removed then tank disconnected under sink and gas line outside. Pulled it out slid in the new one and reconnected everything and reinstalled trim/door. It's a manual start, no problems keeping it lit and just leave it on once we're set up and turn off when we are in motion. So far so good.

As I recall, I went with the 80-1350 for $346.97. It is GAS W/DIRECT SPRK IGN. I seldom connect to shore power, so no need for the 80-1364 unit. It has been several years (about 2006) and the best price at the time was here:

Atwood RV Water Heater - electric ignition.

I imagine it comes out from the outside, theres about 20 screws all the way around the outside lip. It's LPG only, manual light.

Now you could get fancy and get an ON DEMAND type...big bucks! MY expereince is they come out from the outside. Do the new ones require a control module like mine on the inside which I had to repalce? Runs perfect form then on. You will enjoy the new heater compared to the '95 versions.
Good Luck!

I replaced the Attwood that was in my TC, it came out through the outside. Mine was a manual pilot. I upgraded to DSI ignition. I did have to install a switch, and run a 12-volt wire to the water heater. The DSI is great. I flip the switch about 30 minutes before I need hot water, or just leave it on. Before the DSI, I would be in the wind and rain trying to light it. Go inside the TC, wind would blow the pilot out, then I go back into the foul weather. I did not want the 120-volt option or 12-volt for heating the water. Just propane with the DSI ignition.

Due to size and shape, I doubt you can change from one brand to another. Each of the brands do have several models to choose from. The Attwood does not use an anode.

From outside. Is it propane only or propane and electric 120 v?

If it is a Suburban, the drain nut being frozen means that the anode hasn't been replaced in a very long time. I'm sure the old heater is ready for the bone yard. Does the water heater come out from the outside or the camper side? I can't imagine a tank coming out of my small access panel on the outside.

If it's a manual light pilot you can buy new for probably just under $300. Is it suburban or attwood?

It's available in propane with a pilot you manually light.
Propane with dsi ignition you flip a switch inside
Propane and electric with dsi ($470.00)
And maybe even propane and electric with a pilot. i haven't shopped for this model
At that age I would consider new and have it over with.

Remove two water lines one gas line and a few electric wires. Followed by several screws and pull it out.
