The pump automatically turns on when pressure is "low" and then off when "high". As long as the water pressure is in the "middle" then mine does not turn on. So the regulator in the pump could be bad, or there is a leak (in the line or a faucet). I would look at all the water lines that you can access for any sign of water leak/damage before changing the pump.
