WD hitch

I have a new 2014 Dodge ram 2500 crew cab, 6.4 hemi, 6spd auto transmission, 410 HP/429 ft lbs torque, 3.73 rear end grears. I have a 2014 springdale 266rls 30' long, dry hitch 740, fresh 60 gals, gry/blk 33 each. to 24 series deep cell batts on hitch, and 2 30LB propane on hitch. My question is how do I know if I need to use my WD hitch? I towed it this weekend without it with full propane and both batts on hitch, no H20 and just maybe 250LBS of total gear in camper and bed of truck. I measured rear wheel well before and after hook up and it only squatted 2". I want to make sure I am towing as safely as possible. Thanks so much for any help on this question I can get.

No, don't try to get it level.

As previously stated -- try to get the front end back to the unhitched height.

Get the front end right, and the rear end will take care of itself -- perhaps about 1" below the unhitched height.

Yep. that is how you do it. However IF after you adjust the hitch. The trailer sits pretty high or low in the front. You may need to raise or lower the ball on the shank. You do want the TT to run reasonably level.

My new 3500 squats about 2 inches on the rear without WD bars. Tried hitching just enough to move around the drive way. I'd never travel that way on the road. Don't know what the front did, but even on my 3500, it couldn't have been good.

I would expect 11-1200lb loaded hitch weight.

Here is a good write up for adjusting a WD hitch!

Don't worry about the rear squat. Check how much the front end rises. Adjust the WD hitch to return the front end to the unloaded height.

Okay, thanks so much for the feed back. Now how much squat should I have on the rear tires? and also how many links in the chain should that be?

30 footer with probably about a 1000 lbs of tongue weight...I'd most certainly be using a WD hitch..

Probably, at that weight, you are getting close to your receivers' max rating without WD.
