Went truck shopping, bought 2016 Ram 3500

So, long story short I took the day off yesterday and the family and I went tov Landmark in Morrow, GA to "look"at their Ram 3500s. We've got a Sierra 5th wheel on order.

The regular salespeople seemed totally clueless and we almost left, but then they got the commercial sales guy's help. We wound up buying a truck they had on order that wasn't even on the lot... How nerve tracking to buy something sight unseen!

Anyway, I'm supposed to drop the 250 off Monday in exchange for a rental car they're providing. The 3500 should be here within the next two weeks. The best tracking they had was that it was in-transit via rail network somewhere in Georgia.

Since I don't have a picture of it, here's the window sticker instead (scroll to bottom).

Linky

Very excited!

Aisin with the 4.10 has to be pretty fun off the line.

Due to torque management, throttle response is not that impressive. My 6.0 PSD with 5R110 and 3.73 gears had more pep than than my 6.7 CTD with Aisin and 4.44's. Disabling traction control and engaging tow/haul seems to make it the most responsive, but they still stifle throttle input.

When you have 32,500# combined and are sitting on a grade you push the go pedal and the load just takes off is where the 4.10's SHINE!

No doubt my off the line pulling power is greater and less stressful to the drive train. The slower acceleration has more to do with longer stroke and regulated throttle compared to my last engine. I own other vehicles that get up to speed quicker if that was my only desire, but there are a few occasions where a short freeway on ramp on an uphill grade make me miss my little PSD.

She will spend the money for rear air and NOT the tranny upgrade. Makes little sense to me! She should have gone for the 4:10/Aisin!

Chris

You beat me to it!

I have owned both trans. The 68 did the job but the Aisin does it MUCH better with the lower starting gears and the more solid shift points. Oh also the extra HP and TQ are nice!

I have said it before the 3.73's based on personal experience are not needed. My 11 HO with3.42's and 68 towed 28-29K combined, the only issue was starting on a grade. I towed in 5th the exact same rpm's as the 4.10's in 6th. Example 1,750 @ 60. If ordering a RAM Dually and I knew for a fact I would never exceed around 27K combined I would get the Aisin with 3.42's any more weight then 4.10's and Aisin.

C Shomer you will love the factory rear air ride!!! I would Seriously consider changing to the Aisin!

It will have plenty of weight capacities to spare and I've never read of a problem with the 68RFE but I have with the Aisin. Craig

Yep don't try and get the Cummins to 5k RPM's, it might not end well!

Ain't going to happen even if you tried :W Maybe down a 10% grade towing max weight, but even then it's not fueled rpm.
Try a red line of 2200 sometime, it get's your attention constantly pulling mountains.

I'm super excited about not having anymore 4k-5k rpm upshifts & downshifts, I was towing in manual mode all of the time in the 250. I won't miss that...

Oh and I found out today that the 2016 6.7/AS69RC combination has 385 hp / 900 lb-ft torque....I had mistakenly thought torque was 865 lb-ft like 2015 model year. My goodness that's a lot!

You will love it though and the Aisin is awesome behind the Cummins.

That was one of the first big eye openers I got when I first got my old 20011 CTD. Thinking like a gasser driver I manually shifted down when I went to pass a semi. She was pulling strong and smooth at first but it was like the engine just ran out of oomph. Looking down I saw the tach right at the redline of 3200rpm. Seems the computer just eases off the power and protects the engine from old gas engine drivers who expect a lot of noise before they start thinking max rpm.
