What are your yearly registration costs for your truck?

What kind of truck do you have and What are your yearly registration costs in your state? What state? Do you have to do anything special?
I know some states have a separate property type tax on vehicles too.

I live in Illinois and my 2003 Dodge Ram 3500 dually cost me $158 per year for a D truck plate that is up to 12000 lbs. I also have to have safety inspections at about $30 each. Inspections were required twice a year but this year that was changed to once a year.

I can confirm that CO costs are crazy for newer vehicles. They also go off MSRP, not what you actually paid. So for example, my Explorer brand new was around $900. The MSRP was about $13,000 more than what I actually paid for it. Thankfully now it's a few years old so it will probably be in the $500 range (insert eyeroll here).

To add, I don't even know what the trucks and camper cost, as my husband pays those. But I know the truck and camper were both well over $1000.

Thanks again for all the replies. Many were helpful and a few were confusing. Some gave cost but no location.

$40 a year in DE for my truck.

Commercial vehicles are $40 for the first 5K lbs, and $18 for each additional thousand.

Inspection on older vehicles is required every 2 years. A lot longer on newer vehicles.

On 1996 and newer vehicles that means check computer for codes/readiness, lights/wipers/tires/etc safety check, and a brake test.

Indiana:

~$500 depending on details. $45 for registration, and for a 2018 F-350 Super Duty Crew Diesel, ~$450 tax.

(Ohio is sooooo much better for this!)

Ohio:

Passenger vehicle will pay $34.50.

Light Non-Commercial Vehicles (up to ¾ of a ton) cost $49.50 to renew and Heavy Non-Commercial Vehicles (up to a 1 ton capacity) are $84.50 to renew.

Service Fees:

The state of Ohio charges a Deputy Registrar license agency fee of $3.50 for a 1-year renewal.
There is a 2% processing fee assessed for all online credit card transactions.
There is a $0.41 postal fee assessed for the mailing of all renewals.

No license tax/personal property tax. It's a relatively inexpensive state for these things.

Wow thanks for all the replies. We are considering relocating but have not decided where yet. It is amazing that some states make it so hard to find this info. I have read on hear about people having to register their dually trucks as commercial. I surprised no one gave details about that here.

If considering relocating, consider Georgia. No state income tax on retirement benefits, including social security. Unless you are wealthy with very unusual retirement earnings, you will not pay any state tax. Property taxes vary, of course, but are often less than the national average. Housing costs are way below the national average. Cost of living below national average. Climate choices vary from coastal sub tropical to mountains. Big cities to rural. I live in a small town where you can still have lunch at the drugstore but am 45 minutes from Atlanta, and half that from a major university and one of the top 10 hospitals in the nation! Best of everything! Veterans pay half of vehicle annual registration, free driver's license renewal!

I have the truck registered for 23,000 lbs., you license by GCW in Missouri, and it runs around $100 per year. It would be cheaper if I went to a lower weight, but 23,000 lb. makes me legal. And we did have a trooper check us when he stopped us for expired tag. It wasn't expired, I just hadn't put it on. Oops. He said he might have called DOT if we had 12,000 lb. tag on our longbed dually and 40' toyhauler. 🙂

Colorado has to be the worst for new vehicles. I know it's over $1,000 for a new one, maybe someone here with a new truck can post.

This will give you a clue. We bought a new Big Horn fifth wheel it was a “11” bought in “10”. $1300 first year. $1300 second year, because it was still considered new, they said. Third year was just under $1000. Never even used it in Colo, always camped in WY and wintered in AZ. I’ve heard of people that had several different utility trailers an just swapped their plate to which they were using at the time. I’d get caught the minute I’d hit the street.
