When buying a new TT how do you negotiate

So I sell cars for a living and know how they work as far as pricing. So I'm assuming TT are the same?

The grand design I'm looking at they are taking about 22% off MSRP.

The thing that irritated me is I told him I was price shopping. He informed me if I didn't buy there and needed to have them service it down the road I wouldn't be treated like I purchased it there.

In my line off work all our customers are treated equally whether or not they purchased it here.

Anyways any insight would be appreciated.

I negotiated 30% off MSRP and a front bedroom AC with thermostat for my GD 303RLS. When dealing, I simply pulled out my phone and calculated it - it was below their "sale" price. I showed the phone to the salesman and said here is where I'm at. When he asked if we were buyers at that number, we asked for a few minutes to discuss. When he came back, we said we would be buyers if the front AC was thrown in.

If the dealer won't service your TT, I'd contact GD and ask them why - you'll get a good response.
Experience without good judgment is worthless; good judgment without experience is still good judgment!

I bought four different new trailers over the past twenty years.

First I knew the particular make and floor plan I wanted
Second I knew the price that I wanted to pay for each before I ever walked into the dealer
Third, I let them play their games and if I didn't get it at my price I walked
Fourth, I got all four of them at what my price was

On one of them, I was getting back into my car when the salesman came running out and said they had agreed to my price

If you don't get 30 % off their starting price, just walk !

Kinda the same attitude I take. I'm not there to play games. I tell them my terms and I'm not nice about it. Don't get me wrong, I don't come off rude or angry, it's just I'm not there to play nice.

Find the rig you want on either rvwholesalers.com or rvdirect.com. This will probably be your best price. Then use that as leverage when negotiating if you want to buy local.

Both companies have been around a long time and are legit. Be sure to factor in any delivery charges to your area.

When we bought our last trailer, rvwholesalers was $10,000 less than the best price I found locally, even after factoring a $2500 delivery charge from Indiana to California. I was even prepared to buy from them.

I kept shopping around and finally found a local dealer that had the rig I wanted and I said, "This is what I can buy this trailer for. If you want to match it, I'll take buy it today." They did, and I did.

Also, as others mentioned, don't get hung up on local dealers for warranty work. Most are terrible anyway.

that's really close to what mine was on a new prowler 276re last month. On a side note, is the extended warranty recommended? I bought one but am considering canceling. it was several bucks

Cancel it. Many are not worth the paper they're written on. It's an overpriced add-on. The dealer makes HUGE profit on. Many companies go out of business and keep your $$$. Put the money in the bank and pay your own.

We have always dealt with a ma and pa Jayco dealer here in Mi. Their store is near our northern house. I was told by an experienced TT owner to never buy from a huge store or one that others have had problems with. I got the better deal and saved a couple thousand on the deal. I have bought 6 trailers from the same dealer and always got great service.

Care to share the name of the dealer either public or PM?

I do the same thing that I do when buying a car. I check around the country on the internet and ask for a price that includes all the options I want. I recently bought a Flagstaff Micro lite from a dealer in California and I live in Sedona, AZ I negotiated the price over the phone and then drove to CA to pickup. IN 2018 I bought a new f150 the same way and went to Peoria IL to pick it up. It saved me about 4K over AZ, CA, TX, OK negotiated prices. The dealer that wants to sell will make the price interesting. IN 2004 I bought a 40' DP in Maine and drove it home to Colorado.

The life span of the trailer is longer than 1 year. Warranty or not it is beneficial to have a good relationship with the local dealer.
It can be the difference between getting parts efficiently or getting a quick last minute repair.
I have pulled up to the dealer and had the tech do a quick fix on my way to a CG.
I agree don't be held hostage buy the warranty issue but also don't dismiss the value of a good dealer relationship

I guess id depends on mechanical ability as well. Unless its warranty work im going to fix it myself. Probably do a better job as well. If regular dealer trips are something i need to consider then i need to buy something different.
