Which truck would you choose

Needing some advice and not wanting to start WWIII. I have narrowed down my choice of trucks. One is a 2006 f250 with 6.0. it has been gone through and bullet proofed at 227,000 and now has 236,000. No tuner and has never been used a tow vehicle. Trans has been serviced regularly and shifts very smooth but has never been rebuilt. He has all the receipts from engine work.
truck 2 is a 2008 dodge ram 2500 mega cab with 6.7 cummins and 68rfe trans, with 147,000.Engine has been egr deleted. trans is stock. no tuner has been ran on either trucks, both 4x4. i have never owned a diesel before. just wanting to know your thoughts on longevity of both drive trains. both trucks are very clean and been well taken care of. thanks in advance, steve

the reason why I am going diesel is we are thinking of upgrading to a 5th wheel as well. Maybe next year. If i was never gonna upgrade I would go gas.

I'm looking at new trucks myself and mostly likely be a ford but if I were you with the vehicles discribed I would go with the RAM.

For 7k TT I would buy a gasser. You could get a newer nicer, lower mileage truck that would just fine, and be a better daily driver.

Ok, disclaimer; currently I tow a 7k TT with my diesel ;o but we'll be buying a 5er soon, which is why I switched to diesel. Good luck with whatever you choose and yes, if I HAD to choose only between the two you mentioned.....well....shoot, I just can't bring myself to say it.

I was leaning that way myself, but I have never had either one of the diesels. But I had a 01 dodge and the trans was not very good. How is the 68rfe trans holding up. My new TT weighs 7000 dry. Thanks again

The 68RE came out with the new 6.7 engine and seems to be a winner and is still used today with the Cummins.

I would opt for the Ram, but I have a question. Why are you limiting your truck search to diesels? Your 7,000 lb dry TT will weigh under 10K fully loaded. Used diesel prices are high these days and you really don't need a diesel under 10K lbs. I traded in a 2008 Ram 2500 with CTD with 120K miles and the 68rfe never had any problems. I think It's a good transmission if serviced properly and no tuners. Good luck.

To put it bluntly:

Truck #1 is Roseanne Barr and truck #2 is Christy Brinkley.

I'm a Ford guy, mostly, but given these 2 choices, I would go with the Dodge.

Wonder why somebody waited to put all that $$$ into a Ford 6.0 at 227,000 miles, then wants to sell it off right after? Raises a BIG warning flag to me.

Another vote for the Dodge. A lot less miles and a bullet proof engine.

Dodge for sure. Newer, less miles, not a 6.0, whst's not to like?
We had two 6.0 Fords at work, even when they were running I thought they were extremely loud and had poor handeling.
