What kind of tape would you use to secure plastic over the vent for refrigerator on the external wall? I used clear packing tape today, but now thinking I might end up with some nasty residue to try and remove come spring. I duct taped all the gas and wiring and water drains etc underneath, but this requires taping on the laminated outer wall so thinking twice.

My guess is if critters want in, plastic and tape wont deter them? I respect you trying prevention, but still check vents in the spring. I lit my fridge one spring and lit a squirrel nest on fire in my vent area. Lots of water and freaking out kept the camper from being a 4th of July firecracker. Funny how it was the 4th weekend,,,,
WD40 helps disolve residue in the spring. Goo Gone and those type of products tend to harden the residue where WD40 will disolve the residue and wipe off eventually.

3M painters tape will do you well. Even if it gets a little wet. Be sure the area is dry when applying otherwise it won't stick at all. The adhesive is water soluble and the best thing the remove the adhesive residue, should some be left after removal but not likely, would be Windex.
3M makes other types of tape that would be better to suit this application but they are on the industrial level and would not be worth you time or money tracking down purchasing some for this little task.

Wrap with Saran wrap and just put it back in place as normal.

I just leave mine open. When I'm ready to use my RV I inspect everything. Use air hose and clear out all dust dirt etc. Never had a probkem. Of course in WY nothing much is moving around in the winter except snow.

I think you would be better off taking the vent cover off, place a piece of plastic inside and replace it using the cover itself to hold the plastic in place. But on the other hand I am not too sure why you want to do it?

painters blue tape? it is suppose to be non residue tape

But if it's anything like regular masking tape, the adhesive will dry out over the winter and then be nearly impossible to remove. Painter's tape is designed to be used short term and removed when the painting is done. Read the instructions and I'm sure you'll see that they don't recommend leaving it on any longer than necessary.

May I ask why you feel the need to seal up the opening? I never have.
