For us a topper is a must.....have had 3 ft x 6 ft sheet of ice 2 inches thick or more on it....just don t stand near when retracting....never had issue with rain....try to wipe slides some if wet.....before retracting....
We live in our small 5 er.....but temps only get in teens for a couple of days a couple times a year.....mostly is above 32......we pull trailer to dump station once a month.....course you should always move your RV regular to keep things working.......
