A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Went camping this weekend at a campground on the lake, had not been there for a few years. Once there I began to walk around looking at the different sites when I noticed a very old dog. He just lay there until I got too close then he got up on three legs and hobbled away. Just judging I would say he is at least 11 years old. Well back to my story. The next afternoon he wanders into camp and just sits there looking. He looked so sad, so the wife got a bowl of our dog's food and put it down for him and he came over and ate. He then walked over to our dog and the two of them sniffed each other over and then they lay down together for the rest of the afternoon. That night he disappeared.
The next morning he was back and was a little more receptive of me. I looked at his injured leg and found that half of his rear foot was gone. It had healed and was not causing any problem except that he was walking on the stub that was left with no foot pad which causes him to limp. His front teeth were gone except for one canine tooth and it looked decayed. His eyes were tired looking and showing his age. He spent the rest of the day just laying around looking for a handout and by afternoon the campground host came around and saw him. I enquired about the dog and was told he had been there for three years and that most of the campers were tolerant of him and gave him food.
So what to do? Do you pick him up and bring him home or do you let nature take it course. He can't harm anyone, he has no teeth and he isn't a nuisance unless you don't like dogs, and no one seems to mind him being there. He is gentle and likes other animals as seen by his interaction with our dog. He still would not let me touch him but he would eat from my hand. Enough said, what would you do???

On June 28th 2008 Old Fella passed away of complications caused by bone cancer. Fella spent almost three years with his new family and became the icon of rescued old stray dogs. He will be greatly missed but his foot prints have been left in our hearts forever.

Now Charlie, the ten year old rescued Golden Lab has come to be a part of the continuing Old Fella story. (*Note, Charlie took his journey to Rainbow Bridge unexpectedly September 30, 2008)Suzie continues to charm her way into our hearts with her antics as she has grown from a puppy into a young lady. Togther they will carry on the Old Fella legacy. Come join us in their daily lives and be a part of the best feel good thread in RV.NET history. The legacy lives on.

Good morning everyone. Things have changed in the way we can monitor our fur babies with cameras. The new technology is awesome. So glad this wasn't available when I was a kid.

Well the ignition switch didn't fix the lawn mower. So back to square one. I by passed the safety switch on the seat so that isn't the problem. I guess I need to check the battery cables again just to make sure one isn't cut or loose.

The fur gang is well this morning as is the rest of us. I am still bothered with tenderness and pain in my lower abdomen, but not as bad this morning. I have cut out everything that could be causing this so its wait and see what happens next.

The wedding is this weekend so once that is done and I go see the doctor in June we will be free to travel. We are still planning on going to Georgetown, Kentucky for a few days to visit the Ark. Dan and Patty are planning on joining us there so we will get to see their camper.

Okay I all is well with everyone and I wish you a blessed day. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them.

I have 6 or 7 cameras throughout the house. They are Foscam wifi cameras. I have a couple different models but all of them can me controlled through your phone or computer. I can move them 300 degrees left and right and also up and down. You can buy them on Amazon. They are around $50 buy sometimes they will sell a 3 pack of them for $99.

Dale we use one by Guardzilla. Got it from Best Buy. We have been using it now for several years. We have the MiFI from Verizon so when we travel we can take the camera with us and watch our fur baby in the 5er as well. We can listen to her as well as talk to her.

I spy on our dogs when I am at work. I wish I could sleep all day like they do.

It is dark and rainy outside today so the room is a bit dark so the pictures didn't come out as well.

Good morning everyone. Mother's day is past and I hope all is well with everyone. We are fine here at Camp Dixie, just a little wilted from the heat, but not complaining. no mot at all. This week will be busy with the upcoming wedding. I had to remind the kids to get the license, nothing like waiting to the last minute to get the most important document for the event.

The fur gang is well and waiting for a walk. Its cool right now at 66 degrees, but soon it will be another hot day with temps in the lower 90's. The part for the lawn mower should be in today so I can get it running and mow the lawn. Dixie likes to watch me from the front windows as I cut the grass in the front yard. I would let her ride with me on the mower, but I am afraid that would be a set up for disaster.

Okay I need to get moving so I will close for now wishing everyone a blessed day. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them.

Good morning everyone and a Happy Mother's Day to all who are mothers. Yesterday it was in the 90's again and today will be a repeat of yesterday. This morning we are going to church and then I am taking Sue out for lunch. We will be riding in the 1972 Lincoln as this is a special day and it should be driven in all of its glory. The old car still draws attention whenever its out and the story about how the car came back to me after forty two years is still amazing.

The fur gang is well this morning. Dixie is whining at the bathroom door for Sue to come out and take them for a walk. I think it is the best part of Sue's day when she lets Dixie in from being outside and she runs to the bedroom and jumps up in the bed to root me out from under the covers.

Susie is doing well and seems to be happy. She has been sleeping in the living room on the couch but last night she decided to sleep in her kennel after having a good day with me and getting lots of attention.

Allison and Holly came over yesterday to bring Sue some flowers and a Mother's Day card. Some how the conversation got around to when are you going to get another cat? That is when I spoke up and told them we will wait for a cat to find us as that is the way its been for the dogs and for Izzie, they all have come to us as being homeless. Levi, if you remember brought Izzie to us when he found him in the bushes seventeen years ago. All of our dogs were brought to us after being homeless. Old Fella was a different story in that he found us while we were at a campground and I had to go back to get him. However I went back to get him so I could get him well and then find a forever home for him with someone else. Well we all know how that turned out don't we?

Okay I need to get moving so I will close for now wishing everyone a blessed day. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them. Once again Happy Mother's Day

Good morning everyone. Yesterday I went out to start the lawn mower and for the first time in eight years it failed to crank. It looked as if something fell on the ignition switch and damaged it. The key was bent down sideways and when I turned it nothing happened. The battery is good so I guess something fell on it when Sue was moving her boxes around looking for some items she had in stock that she had a buyer for. Anyway she told me that is most likely what happened. So I called a friend who does yard work and asked him to come over and take care of the lawn until I can repair it.

It was hot yesterday, in the nineties for the first time this year. Today will be a repeat with a high of ninety-three. We went from winter to summer and skipped spring. The house next door is coming along. Yesterday they finished putting the roof on. All the walls are up and now for the plumbing and electrical work to be done and then the dry wall. Steve says he and his wife want to buy a camper and start enjoying traveling. He has never owned a camper so he is looking for me to help guide him in his new adventure.

Dixie is acting strange toward new people she comes in contact with. She met one of our neighbors while out on a walk and Dixie didn't like her at all. She was walking with a long cane stick and that may have been the problem thinking she was a threat to Sue, anyway it was all Sue could do to hold Dixie back from attacking her. This is totally unlike the sweet loveable little girl we have come to grow very fond of.

Suzie is doing well, I guess. Her paws are still cool to the touch. I wonder if there is a circulation problem in her legs and paws? I noticed she wants to be on the couch snuggled in with her back to the cushion and curled up with her paws under her as much as possible. She loves to go for walks and she is active when she wants to play, but something is just off with her. Maybe she is just getting old like the rest of us. I stayed cold this winter, with my feet and legs just frozen. Sue likes to keep the house at seventy-one degrees and I can't stand that. As long as I had fire wood for the fireplace I stayed warm, but when we ran out in February and winter held on into April the house was cold. Sometimes I went out to the camper and turned on the heat just to get warm.

Now it seems we are going to have summer, Great! let the sun shine keep us warm while we dream of open roads waiting for adventure.

Glad to see folks posting pictures of their fur babies on the thread. Its makes it much nicer to see all of our friends with their families and being able to put faces to names.

Okay I need to get moving so I will close for now wishing everyone a blessed day. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them.
