A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Went camping this weekend at a campground on the lake, had not been there for a few years. Once there I began to walk around looking at the different sites when I noticed a very old dog. He just lay there until I got too close then he got up on three legs and hobbled away. Just judging I would say he is at least 11 years old. Well back to my story. The next afternoon he wanders into camp and just sits there looking. He looked so sad, so the wife got a bowl of our dog's food and put it down for him and he came over and ate. He then walked over to our dog and the two of them sniffed each other over and then they lay down together for the rest of the afternoon. That night he disappeared.
The next morning he was back and was a little more receptive of me. I looked at his injured leg and found that half of his rear foot was gone. It had healed and was not causing any problem except that he was walking on the stub that was left with no foot pad which causes him to limp. His front teeth were gone except for one canine tooth and it looked decayed. His eyes were tired looking and showing his age. He spent the rest of the day just laying around looking for a handout and by afternoon the campground host came around and saw him. I enquired about the dog and was told he had been there for three years and that most of the campers were tolerant of him and gave him food.
So what to do? Do you pick him up and bring him home or do you let nature take it course. He can't harm anyone, he has no teeth and he isn't a nuisance unless you don't like dogs, and no one seems to mind him being there. He is gentle and likes other animals as seen by his interaction with our dog. He still would not let me touch him but he would eat from my hand. Enough said, what would you do???

On June 28th 2008 Old Fella passed away of complications caused by bone cancer. Fella spent almost three years with his new family and became the icon of rescued old stray dogs. He will be greatly missed but his foot prints have been left in our hearts forever.

Now Charlie, the ten year old rescued Golden Lab has come to be a part of the continuing Old Fella story. (*Note, Charlie took his journey to Rainbow Bridge unexpectedly September 30, 2008)Suzie continues to charm her way into our hearts with her antics as she has grown from a puppy into a young lady. Togther they will carry on the Old Fella legacy. Come join us in their daily lives and be a part of the best feel good thread in RV.NET history. The legacy lives on.

It has been a cold wet day and evening. The high today was 41 degrees and then dropped to 38 degrees. It's back up to 43 degrees right now and the rain has just about stopped.

We have had a fire in the fireplace all day and night, sure feels good. The girls have been outside several times today but didn't stay long. It's getting close to bed time so I will let the fire go out and leave the embers until they finally burn out.

I have to be at the doctor's office at eight O'clock in the morning for fasting blood work. I will stop by Bojangles to bring home some sausage biscuits for a late breakfast.

I checked the camper several time today to make sure there are no water leaks and all is fine there.

Okay I am going to close for now wishing everyone a blessed evening.

I am glad that I live in Florida after seeing the temps people are posting. Supposed to be 86 degrees here in West Central Florida today.

The wife and I celebrated our 16th anniversary on Saturday. We took the motorhome to LazyDays resort in Tampa. I didn't take the Jeep with us so we took an Uber to the Hardrock hotel to eat dinner at a new restaurant that opened a few months ago. It was expensive but it was really good. We had our nieces stay at the house to watch the dogs. We usually take them with us but Murphy (our 15 year old Jack Russell) sometimes barks at night if we leave her in the motorhome alone. She doesn't do it during the day as she sleeps. I didn't want to take any chances and disturb our neighbors at the RV resort so they stayed home this trip.

We mentioned to our nieces about the trip to Sevierville next October and they both want to come so I might have a Motorhome full next fall.

The "shed" to the far left is a 12 x 28 "Texas Room." Actually it is an efficiency apartment. We built it in the event family wanted to come help Mom and Dad out. It has a full bathroom, laundry, closet, kitchenette with Micro/convection, 2 burner gas range, refrigerator, sink and then a dining table. Also a front living area large enough to toss an air mattress in. The cart shed is in the middle and doubles as storage as well.

Good morning everyone. It's cold and raining. The outside temperature is 41 degrees and the high today will be 45 degrees. Dale your picture of the shed for the motorhome looks nice. That will keep you and the motorhome out of the rain. Looks like a small shed off to the side, is that a place to stay or for storage?

Sue is taking her time about getting ready to face the day since it is raining. The girls don't want to go out in the rain, don't blame them.

So I guess today I will run one errand and come home, build a fire in the fire place and try to stay warm and dry.

The Browns played a good game yesterday. Chubb has really helped their running game and the defense was outstanding. Congratulations Dan and Dan looks like you will have wining team next year.

Okay I need to get moving so I will close for now wishing everyone a blessed day. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them.

We were headed toward cousin Gary's in Zachary, LA, last Sunday when he called and said the rain had saturated his yard too much and we wouldn't be able to stay there. Or rather, we could get in. . . getting out would be a problem. So we changed plans and stayed at the Denham Springs KOA on I-12 for 2 nights. Weather was warm enough. Left there on Wednesday morning and headed for the coastal bend of Texas. Got to Bay City and still reasonable temps. All that changed that night when a cold front came through. Wind, rain and plummeting temps. We were looking forward to visiting some former haunts, but most everything was gone that we remembered due to hurricanes, etc.

Planned a relaxing time in the sun but it was not to be. So after one full day of rain and wind and cold, we decided to head on down the road. The forecast for every place we wanted to visit was the same for the next week. So we decided to head straight to Mission, Texas, and our winter roost. We were about 325 miles away and planned at least 2 places to stop along the way, but I couldn't stop driving. We pulled into our place at 3 p.m. and are now playing at setting things up under the canopy. Still cold, wet and rainy, but now dry under cover. Duchess is excited about visiting her "old" pee park which she undoubtedly remembers from the smells.

Park not very full, but a few friends are already here. Anxious for warmer weather now!

It's cold outside right now at 44 degrees and will drop into the 30's tonight. No frost yet but expecting some Monday night. We went and got more firewood today so we will be well stocked for winter.

The sun is shining and not a cloud in the sky here. From a glance looks like a gorgeous day, until you walk outside. Temperature 23 degrees with a 20 to 30 Mph wind so it feels like 7 degrees.

Good morning everyone. Yesterday it rained most of the day and it was cold. Today there is sunshine and the temperature will be in the 50's. Sue and I will go get more firewood, hopefully enough to last the winter.

We are all doing good and looking forward to a great day. Hope all is well with everyone and wishing you a blessed day. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them

There is a trace of snow on the vehicles and grass. Turning to mostly rain then back to snow tonight.
We will see temperatures in mid 20's overnight for the next several days. I guess old man winter is here.

Same here. My joints are aching and longing for Gulf Shores...
