A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Went camping this weekend at a campground on the lake, had not been there for a few years. Once there I began to walk around looking at the different sites when I noticed a very old dog. He just lay there until I got too close then he got up on three legs and hobbled away. Just judging I would say he is at least 11 years old. Well back to my story. The next afternoon he wanders into camp and just sits there looking. He looked so sad, so the wife got a bowl of our dog's food and put it down for him and he came over and ate. He then walked over to our dog and the two of them sniffed each other over and then they lay down together for the rest of the afternoon. That night he disappeared.
The next morning he was back and was a little more receptive of me. I looked at his injured leg and found that half of his rear foot was gone. It had healed and was not causing any problem except that he was walking on the stub that was left with no foot pad which causes him to limp. His front teeth were gone except for one canine tooth and it looked decayed. His eyes were tired looking and showing his age. He spent the rest of the day just laying around looking for a handout and by afternoon the campground host came around and saw him. I enquired about the dog and was told he had been there for three years and that most of the campers were tolerant of him and gave him food.
So what to do? Do you pick him up and bring him home or do you let nature take it course. He can't harm anyone, he has no teeth and he isn't a nuisance unless you don't like dogs, and no one seems to mind him being there. He is gentle and likes other animals as seen by his interaction with our dog. He still would not let me touch him but he would eat from my hand. Enough said, what would you do???

On June 28th 2008 Old Fella passed away of complications caused by bone cancer. Fella spent almost three years with his new family and became the icon of rescued old stray dogs. He will be greatly missed but his foot prints have been left in our hearts forever.

Now Charlie, the ten year old rescued Golden Lab has come to be a part of the continuing Old Fella story. (*Note, Charlie took his journey to Rainbow Bridge unexpectedly September 30, 2008)Suzie continues to charm her way into our hearts with her antics as she has grown from a puppy into a young lady. Togther they will carry on the Old Fella legacy. Come join us in their daily lives and be a part of the best feel good thread in RV.NET history. The legacy lives on.

The car I learned to drive on was a '62 Plymouth Valiant, just about the same color - maybe a little more green. I hated that my older brother got that car as a wedding present.

I really like the color. The color looks a little different if its sunny out vs overcast. Her last two vehicles were black. The black looked great when the vehicle was very clean but they were hot and showed every mark.

I am really glad she got this Jeep. Her last Jeep only had 36,000 miles and never gave us a bit of trouble. This one has a small direct injected turbo 4 cylinder engine. It's only a 2.0 liter. I was hesitant when we first started looking at it but after driving it I was sold. Small engines have come a long way. When I turned 16, my dad gave me his 1981 Ford Fairmont. It had a 2.3 liter 4 cylinder engine with a 4 speed stick shift transmission. It had 85 horsepower.

This jeep with the 2.0 has 260 horsepower and an 8 speed automatic. Engines sure have come a lot way. I have to unlearn my old way of thinking which has always been "there's no replacement for displacement" when it comes to engines.

I really like the color of Donna's new jeep. Years ago when Garland and I were in our "classic car" phase, we had a 1959 Chevy that we had painted just about that exact color.:C

Good Morning FOOFs

I got out of the house for the first time in a week over the weekend. We took the motorhome on about a 50 mile drive. It has been sitting for 2 months so I wanted to give it some exercise and to run the generator for awhile.

It seems like all I have been doing lately is spending money. I have been wanting to get my windows replaced in the house for several years. I finally reached out to a local window company and they came out and measured last week. I am having impact windows installed. They are supposed to be good for 150mph windows and they have a 30 year warranty on them. If any of them fog up, they will replace them for free (including labor).

We also took a trip to the local Jeep dealership. Jeep has been offering 0% interest and the lot is full of Jeeps/cars/trucks that aren't moving. We ended up getting a really good deal and traded in Donna's 2014 black jeep on a 2020 Jeep Wrangler 4 Dr. It has so many bells and whistles that it will take some time to figure everything out. Adaptive cruise control, dual zone climate control, backup cameras, automatic top, etc. The dealership did a good job with social distancing. They didn't have any cars in the showroom because they had large tables that were spaced out. The only person I go close to was the sales person who sat in the back seat during the test drive.

So I have done by part by helping out the local economy this week!

Here are a couple of pictures of Donna's new Jeep.

Happy Easter to everyone. Found out the other day one of my Grand Daughters tested positive and so did her Husband. Their symptoms did not include a fever or hard breathing. You all be careful.

Good morning everyone. Yesterday I started feeling bad and had a low grade fever. Turns out I have a UTI. So I don't have the virus bug or anything exciting going on, just old age and a UTI. I slept intil 10AM this morning. Dixie was up and down on the bed trying to get me up. Boy I feel kind od rough with the UTI. Diapers are the dress for the day. Last night I woke up sweating like a race horse. I had a fever of 101.7 yesterday. was afraid I was coming down with the virus. After talking with the doctor the only thing I had was a fever without the shortness of breath and without the other symptoms. later in the evening I realized where my real problems were. Now I have to wait until tomorrow to see my other doctor and get an antibiotic.

I guess then all is well for now. Just wait and see how things turn out tomorrow. I hope all is well with everyone and you are safe and healthy. I will close for now wishing everyone a blessed day. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them. cat fight on the front porch gotta go.

Today is my birthday. I am 9 years old. I am hoping to get some of my favorite desert for super tonight. ICE CREAM I just love it. I know when Mom or Dad opens the freezer I can hear them take out the ice cream. I look at them like well where is mine and 99% of the time I get some. I just love my ice cream.

The sun is shining and looks like it is going to be a gorgeous day. So I will be taking Dad and maybe Mom on some walks to enjoy the sunshine and celebrate my birthday. :B

With the improvements in the bike paths in Gulf Shores state park there are huge numbers of bikers. We saw a couple of recumbent trikes that really looked great (except for the price :)) The one we liked the best was a Terra Trike, they happened to be made in Grand Rapids, MI I think. One model had an electric assist and with the recumbent feature you don't fear falling. The model we saw had a seat almost like a car seat that was more upright for back support and was high enough that it looked pretty easy to get in and out without looking like a fool.

If you get back to Michigan you could get a tour of the factory :B

Richard - I was like you with my bicycle - especially after having both knees replaced and a lung condition. I splashed out on an electric bike. Not fully electric (although it can be if I so desired!) as it has a 6 speed and works just like a regular bike - but has a twist grip to add electric power if needed.

When I started riding it I used the electric a lot, but now I find I use the assist only for helping with inclines and head winds, or if I have gone a long way and need help getting home (it has a 40 mile range!). As a result I am now actually cycling/pedaling more than I ever did with my old Trek 21-speed!

It is a Pedego Comfort Cruiser. Not cheap I must say, but worth looking up if you are interested. I bought the one that has the low crossbar (ladies version if you like) as I had the same problem as you, in getting my leg up and over - I fell too. Liane liked it so much she has bought one too. Now we cycle every day instead of maybe once every couple of months. ๐Ÿ™‚

Good morning everyone. I did ride the bicycle yesterday and I didn't fall, Sue rode with me. My legs gave out after a short distance. I am so out of shape. When Ogot home I had a hard time standing on my legs. They wanted to bend out from under me. I remember when I used to ride that bike for miles without stopping. When we lived in Waynesboro we would ride out of town for about ten miles. There was a circle back to the house that took us out into the country and back. I thought we were tough back then. The bicycles are the same, but we are not.

All is well with us and family. No reports of any illness in the family so far/ I hope all is well with everyone, I wish you a blessed day. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them. When you get bored get out a bicycle and hit the road. It will give you something to look forward to. And that is getting back home and sitting down in the lounge chair.

Good morning everyone. Got my bicycle yesterday. Couldn't get my leg over the thing to get on it. Fell over backward in the yard trying to mount the thing. However I did manage to get on it and ride it down the street. My legs gave out about 1/4 mile from the house. I am so out of shape. Today I will try again and this time my goal is to get at least past the neighbor's house.

Things are well here. Emily worked her shift at the hospital last night. She goes back tonight. Austin is working in the pharmacy while Joshua is working in research in the lab at the army hospital at Fort Bragg in Fayetteville. He is supervisor of three labs and has sixteen workers in all the labs. It's amazing the things they have found out about this virus and it's baffling the things they still don't know. Big responsibility for such a young man. He has done well in the army. WE also also have a nurse in Michigan who is on the front line. She is Sue's sister's daughter. she is also working iin a lab in research. She keeps us informed of what is going on with the virus. Things don't look so good right now. There is more that they don't know than there is that they do know, much going on right now. I hope all is well with everyone.

I will close for now wishing everyone a blessed day. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure o tell someone you love them.

Good morning everyone. With everyone home and on their computers it makes everything slow down. I am having a hard time getting my computer to work as it should. Msn is not responding and not working at times. Yesterday I wasn't able to get the computer to respond to certain commands which left me unable to get to my email. I had to restart my computer this morning to be able to get to email as the computer wouldn't respond to any commands on the msn page.

Oh well. It's another day at home. Staying indoors or out in the yard without being able to venture out into the real world which is running rampant with the Coronavirus. This is crazy. Last night one of my daughters was crying tears about her son and daughter in law working at the hospital and not being able to see them. Her son Austin is working in the pharmacy in the hospital in Columbia, SC while her daughter in law is working as a nurse at the same hospital. Emily is on the front line with the virus. There is no cure for the virus yet and nothing to make people immune to it. So it's just a matter of time before either one of them comes down with the virus. Austin and Emily were just married one year ago. They just finished college and starting on their career jobs. I pray for them every day. Okay I hope everyone is well and all of your family is well. I will close for now wishing each of you a blessed day. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them. BTW you cannot get the virus from your pets.
