Glenwood to Carbondale is an easy four-lane. Carbondale to Redstone is beautiful but no camping along the Crystal River from Carbondale on to McClure Pass. The road is windy and a bit slow (but flat), but just gorgeous scenery. Then on over McClure, you'll climb and climb from the Redstone side (but it's a short way to the top), but the Paonia side is a long gentle windy drop into the valley. Very prone to mudslides and the road can be a bit heaved, so take it easy. Once you hit Paonia, pretty easy highway on into Delta. The road from Delta to Montrose and also to Grand Junction the other direction is good four-lane. I've driven that drive many times, as I lived in Glenwood and my parents were in Montrose. Beautiful in the summer, treacherous in winter. A big rig might get a little seasick coming down the Paonia side of McClure, but it's otherwise fine, though the road from Cdale to McClure can be narrow, but nothing scary, just flat going along the river.
If you're going Glenwood to Delta, you won't go over the infamous Independence Pass unless you're coming in from the Aspen side. I would avoid it if you're not used to heights, and big rigs can't use it at all.
