Colorado Springs, CO to Santa Fe, NM

Has anyone driven I-25 south from Colorado Springs to Santa Fe, NM? I am familiar with the Raton Pass going south but wonder what the climb is like heading into Santa Fe. We've only approached Santa Fe before from Albuquerque. Any experience shared would be appreciated. Thanks!

Take Hwy 64 over to Taos and go down. Good visual illusions with the stream flowing up hill. Also the NRA's ranch is there and if a member they do have some camping. Also get to go thru Cimmeron, and Philmount the boy scout national ranch/campground. Go by Angel Fire 1st Official vietnam war memorial in country there are some rustic campgrounds along the route. End up i Taos a tourist town, but get to drive by the headwaters of the Rio Grande river, go floating maybe, down into Espanola and south to SF. The route is just like rural america used to be and you will see small town america in NM. Its a good trip if ya take it.

The KOA in North side of SF is a nice place to stay IMO.

2X...and while you are near Pecos, NM, stop for breakfast at Frankie's at the Cassanova, they have the best coffee and migas in the area...lots to do in Santa Fe and Skies is a great place to stay for a few days...the sunset is great.

Would recommend stopping at Russell's Truck & Travel Center 58 and I25 near Springer NM. Easy on and off some neat cars inside and a good dog walking area.
Great coffee but very hot.

Near Glorietta Pass is Pecos National Monument, an ancient Pueblo ruins and an early Spanish Mission. Coronado stopped here in 1540 during his search for the mythical city of gold. Nice visitor center well worth a visit. Santa Fe Skies is my favorite Rv Park in SF.

Nothing to worry about...Raton Pass is easy and going south is a breeze…a boring breeze!

If you're familiar with Raton pass, you'll find that Glorietta pass (north of Santa Fe) is much lower with more gradual hills. You won't have any problems.

Rolling high plains from the Springs down through Pueblo and on to Walsenburg and Trinidad. Some sweeper curves and some ups/downs but nothing that you wouldn't find elsewhere on the high plains.

Nothing extraordinary about approaching Santa Fe, coming in from the north. I can tell you that the drive from Raton to Las Vegas area is incredibly boring and rather flat, had a hard time focusing and keeping my attention on the road last time I was through there.
