Denver to Grand Teton NP

Which is the best route to pull our trailer from Denver to the Grand Tetons? Hwy 26 or Hwy 191. I would really like to camp in Jackson. Or if anyone has any recommendations, I'd appreciate it. The park sites are already booked for June. Thank you!

Are you going to Yellowstone too?

We have taken both routes with our trailers (and many other times in a car). On 191 between Pinedale and Jackson, we stayed at the very scenic Granite Creek USFS campground. If using 26/287, we stay at Colter Bay (our favorite campground in Grand Teton NP) with its incredible sunrise photo op of the Tetons reflected in Jackson Lake.

If I were only planning to be on those routes once, I would choose 26/287. Much more scenic between Lander and Jackson than the segment of 191 from Rock Springs to Pinedale.

We have used route 191 a couple of times in the past. Just some rolling hills with the Wind River mountains far in the distance to the east. That said, our preferred route is 26 from Casper all the way to Moran Junction in Grand Teton NP. Route 26 goes over the Togwotee Pass but the climb is gradual beginning at Dubois with great scenery along the way.

X2 on TexasShadow's suggestion for Gros Ventre campground in the Park. In our many trips we have never had an issue getting a site there, even in July. FYI, we paid $92 for a site at the Virginian campground back in 2016.

Would be better to take I-25 north to Fort Collins Exit 269B, which is CO 14/E Mulberry St, head west and follow the truck route to get on US 287 there. Taking US 287 from Denver takes you through a heavily congested urban area with a lot of traffic lights and through downtown Longmont and Loveland. I-25 avoids those downtown areas.

There is a gov. campground about 20 miles north and west of Pinedale, on the Green River, quiet and cheap and has water and a dump station..if you are wanting to stop. An easy drive into Jackson from there.
In Jackson, there is the Virginian RV park, very nice, but a little pricey for us, and we always go through Jackson and north into the Park and then east to Gros Ventre campground, a park campground with water and dump. they have elec sites, full hookups, but they run about $40 night. you can't reserve these but the campground hardly ever fills, and if you get there by 10 or 11 a.m. there will be some sites available.
Or you could do both. Stay in the town one or two nights, then move out to the park campground.
